Shane (Alan Ladd) uses a 7 1/2" Cavalary Single Action Army with a nickel finish and ivory grips as his sidearm in the film. Jack Wilson (Jack Palance) carries two Colt SAA's, and several characters use them as well. Joe Starrett (Van Heflin) takes out an ivory handled Colt when he's about to go after Ryker.

Stonewall says that he will start using his .38 but when we see him use his gun its a Colt SAA.

Another possibly is that he was referring to a .38-40--User: Colt Revolver Fan
