The PPSh-40 (Russian: Пехотный пулемёт Шпитального; Pekhótnyy Pulemyót Shpitalnogo 1940, lit. "Shpitalnyy infantry machine gun") is a prototype of a submachine gun, built by Boris Shpitalniy for the competition to find a successor to the PPD-40. It was built and put up for testing under the name OKB-15. OKB-15 can be translated as "Special Design Office No. 15".
