SIG-Sauer MCX-SPEAR
The MCX-SPEAR is a variant unveiled in 2019 and designed for the United States Army's Next Generation Squad Weapon program. It is based on the MCX-MR, SIG-Sauer's previous unsuccessful submission for the Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System program. The commercial version of the MCX-SPEAR became available in January 2022, and the rifle was announced as the winner of the NGSW program in April 2022, with its designation being the "XM5".
A carbine version with an 8" barrel and a receiver nearly identical to the MCX-MR was previously unveiled in late 2018. Further info about it was disclosed in late 2021, when its name was revealed as the MCX Raptor.
