Para-Ordnance, was a Canadian firearms manufacturer founded in Toronto in 1985 by two childhood friends, Ted Szabo and Thanos Polyzos. Para-Ordnance had a factory in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada. The company employed a staff of 60. The company originally started out as manufacturing sub-machine gun paintball guns, but under the direction of CEO Ted Szabo the company soon transited to the manufacturing of handguns. The company is known for producing the first double-stack 1911. The company also developed double-action only 1911s, using a design they called LDA (Light Double Action). Para-Ordnance merged with it's U.S. subsidiary, Para USA, and completely moved operations to North Carolina. Para USA was eventually bought by Remington Arms and by 2015, the brand name of Para ceased.
