Decker (Paul Desmond) uses a Sharps 1874 rifle fitted with a Vernier peep sight as his main weapon throughout the entire film.
Double Barreled Shotgun
Tristan (Brad Pitt) brings Colonel (Anthony Hopkins) back a decorative Double Barreled Shotgun after traveling most of the world. He uses it to kill the last of the O'Banion thugs on his lawn when they come to kill Tristan.
Holland and Holland Paradox
Tristan (Brad Pitt) is seen using a Holland & Holland Paradox while hunting big game in Africa. This gun's unique feature is the smooth bore barrels with rifling only at the end of the barrels.
One Stab (Gordon Tootoosis) is seen holding an unknown rifle during the scene of the trail of tears at the start of the film.
Lee-Enfield No. I Mk III*
When the Ludlow boys join the British service to fight the Germans in WWI, they are issued Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III* Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) rifles like the other soldiers. It should be noted that Canadian issue rifle was still Ross rifle in 1915.
Webley Mk VI
The issued British soldier sidearm is the Webley Mk VI revolver, though Canadian troops were never issued Webleys. Historically in 1915 they would have been carrying Colt M1911s or Smith & Wesson Hand Ejectors, depending on which division they belonged to.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
The Mauser Gewehr 1898 rifle is used by the German troops in service during WWI.
Maxim MG08
Maxim MG08 machine guns are used by the German troops.
Karabiner 98K
A German cavalaryman is seen firing a WW2-era Karabiner 98k at Tristan while on horseback before Tristan kills him, instead of the period-correct Kar 98 or Kar 88.
Luger P08
Tristan (Brad Pitt) takes a Luger P08 off of a German soldier and uses it to dispatch the German machine gunners after they shoot Samuel (Henry Thomas).
Thompson M1921
Some of the police who work with the O'Banions use M1921 Thompson submachine guns fitted with 50 round drums.
John T. O'Banion (Robert Wisden) shows Tristan's son, Samuel Decker Ludlow (David Kaye), his sidearm, which is a nickel plated Smith & Wesson 4th Model revolver in .32 caliber. It could also be the 5th model but the front sight appears to be integrated to the barrel ribbing, a distinct trait of the 4th Model.
Smith & Wesson Model 36
Susannah Fincannon Ludlow (Julia Ormond) commits suicide with a nickel plated Smith & Wesson Model 36 revolver. This is incorrect since the Model 36 wasn't released yet in the 1920's.It was released in 1950.
Colt Police Positive
One of O'Banion's thugs on the Ludlows' lawn tries to shoot Colonel with a nickel Colt Police Positive before he is shot by Alfred (Aidan Quinn).
