The Heart of Humanity is a 1918 American silent World War I propaganda film directed by Allen Holubar and shows a few equal action strands like D. W. Griffith's Hearts of the World. The story is about Nanette, an American girl living in a small Canadian village, who is in love with John Patricia, the eldest of five brothers. The war interrupts their romantic idyll, as everyone goes overseas to Belgium and France. Nanette becomes a Red Cross nurse and is terrorized by the German Lt. von Eberhard.
The following weapons were used in the film The Heart of Humanity:
Handguns
Luger P08
German Lt. Eric von Eberhard (Erich von Stroheim) is seen with a Luger P08 pistol during the trench fighting.
Smith & Wesson M1917 Revolver
What appears to be a Smith & Wesson M1917 Revolver is used by John Patricia (William Stowell) during close combat.
Colt M1911
The Colt M1911 is used by a U.S. officer who saved John and Nanette.
Rifles
Beaumont-Vitali M1871/88
American, British, Canadian and German soldiers are armed with Dutch Beaumont-Vitali M1871/88 rifles. While the Germans use the long rifle, the Allies use the carbine variant.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
A German sniper uses a correct Mauser Gewehr 1898 with a telescopic sight.
Gras Model 1874
At least, two German soldiers threaten Nanette with French Gras Model 1874 rifles.
Machine Guns
Lewis Gun
A Lewis Gun is used by Maurice (Frank Braidwood) and Paul (Robert Anderson) in a foxhole in No Man's Land. An Allied plane is equipped with an Aircraft variant.
Colt Model 1895
The Colt Model 1895 is the standard machine gun for the German Army in the movie instead of Maxim MG08s.
Hand grenades
Mills Bomb
Mills Bombs are used by Allied soldiers, including John.
