Purgatory (also released as Purgatory West of the Pecos) is a 1999 Western fantasy made for TV movie directed by Uli Edel. A gang of outlaws flees after the bank robbery. Overcoming a sandstorm, they find the way to a peaceful town of Refuge in a hidden valley. The residents of Refuge don't carry guns and shun violence. Even more strange, many of them resemble already dead notorious gunfighters - Wild Bill Hickok, Jesse James, Billy the Kid, Doc Holliday... After a time Sonny, the youngest member of the gang, finds out that the town is a form of Purgatory. When the gang plans to rob the town, Sonny decides to oppose his former companions. But the residents of Refuge hesitate to help him as only resisting the temptations of former live will open the way to Heaven. Nevertheless, the four gunfighters join Sonny to protect the people, even in the cost of the future of their souls.
The following weapons were used in the film Purgatory:
The youngest gang member Leo "Sonny" Dillard (Brad Rowe) carries a Single Action Army "Civilian" Model revolver. During the final shootout, Deputy Glen (Donnie Wahlberg) who turns out to be Billy The Kid, carries a matched pair of engraved nickel plated "Civilian" revolvers with ivory grips.
Single Action Army "Artillery" Model
During the final shootout, Doc Woods (Randy Quaid) who turns out to be Doc Holliday, carries a nickel plated, ivory gripped Single Action Army "Artillery" Model revolver (the real life Doc's choice was a nickel Cavalry model). Some gang members are also armed with "Artillery" revolvers.
Single Action Army "Cavalry" Model
The gang boss Jack "Blackjack" Britton (Eric Roberts) carries a pair of Single Action Army "Cavalry" Model revolvers. Some other gang members are also armed with "Cavalry" revolvers. During the final shootout, local grocer Brooks (JD Souther) who turns out to be Jesse James is armed with a pair of "Cavalry" revolvers with staghorn grips.
Colt Lightning
Another revolver, used by Doc Holliday (Randy Quaid), is a nickel plated Colt Lightning with pearl grips. In reality Colt Lightning was one of the favored guns of Doc Holliday.
Blackjack's second in command Cavin Guthrie (Peter Stormare) carries a pair of Remington 1875 revolvers (he holds only a single gun at a time but both are seen in holsters).
During the bank robbery, a sheriff's deputy is armed with a Winchester Model 1873 carbine. A Winchester 1873 carbine is briefly seen in hands of Cavin Guthrie (Peter Stormare) during the final shootout (in earlier scenes, Guthrie is seen with a Winchester 1892).
In several scenes, Winchester Model 1887 lever action shotguns are used by outlaws (very likely a single prop is reused). As the genuine Winchester 1887 guns are somewhat difficult to find, the screen gun is supposed to be an Uberti replica.
Colt Model 1878
Colt Model 1878 double barreled shotguns with short barrels are used by Jesse James (JD Souther) and Doc Holliday (Randy Quaid). The latter dual-wields a standard Coach Gun and a shotgun with sawed-off buttstock. It's worth noting that in real life Doc Holliday's preferred shotgun was a Colt model in 10 gauge. An outlaw holds a similar shotgun although in this case the barrel length is unknown.
