Sherlock is a 2010 BBC television series based on the classic novel series by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The series, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character, updates the story to a modern day setting, and incorporates modern technology (such as video surveillance and smart phones) into the plot. Four seasons have aired so far, the most recent commencing in January 2017. Each season consists of three 90 minute episodes, except for Season 4, which included a prequel episode:
Season 1 - aired July to August 2010
A Study in Pink
The Blind Banker
The Great Game
Season 2 - aired January 2012
A Scandal in Belgravia
The Hound of Baskerville
The Reichenbach Fall
Season 3 - aired January 2014
The Empty Hearse
The Sign of Three
His Last Vow
Season 4 - aired January 2017
The Abominable Bride (prequel) - aired January 2016
The Six Thatchers
The Lying Detective
The Final Problem
The following weapons were used in the television series Sherlock:
In the series, Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman) is seen with a SIG-Sauer P226R as his primary weapon, in which Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) occasionally uses the pistol. The same handgun also shows up on several occasions in the hands of other characters.
Trivia: Given Watson's military background, it's possible the P226R is meant to represent the SIG-Sauer L105A2, which was the British Army's standard issue sidearm at the time the first two seasons were filmed (currently being phased out in favor of the Glock 17). This would be unrealistic however, as modern British soldiers are required to surrender their weapons upon discharge from service. If Watson kept and used his P226R, he would be in possession of an illegal firearm.
Note: Due to the strict firearms controls in the UK and the reduced insurance cost during filming, the Tokyo Marui P226R airsoft pistol was used as a stand-in, hence why the finish and markings are mismatched (shown quite plainly in several screenshots below).
Two-tone SIG-Sauer P226
A two-tone SIG-Sauer P226 is heavily featured throughout "The Final Problem" (S4E3) in which Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and John Watson (Martin Freeman) is seen handling the SIG extensively throughout the episode.
STI Edge (Cigarette Lighter)
The cabbie (Philip Davis) in S1E1 uses a novelty cigarette lighter disguised as an STI Edge.
Glock 17 pistols are prominently seen in the hands of CIA agents and Specialist Firearms Officers as their primary firearm. Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Irene Adler (Lara Pulver) are also briefly seen handling captured copies.
Two-Tone Glock 17
Detective Inspector Lestrade (Rupert Graves) uses a 3rd Generation two-tone Glock 17 at the end of S2E2.
Henry Knight (Russell Tovey) uses a Beretta 92FS Inox in S2E2 when he thinks that the gigantic hound is outside his home. The pistol is also seen briefly handled by Watson (Martin Freeman). Moriarty (Andrew Scott) also uses a 92FS Inox during the second season finale, however there is no indication that Moriarty normally carries a gun with himself, and he may have just been carrying it for encountering Sherlock.
Note: Owing to the strict firearms controls in the UK and the reduced insurance cost during filming, the Tokyo Marui airsoft replica of the 92FS Inox was used as a stand-in prop, as with the aforementioned P226 used by the main characters, judging from the color and reflectivity of the finish.
M1911A1
A hitman disguised as a repair man in S2E3 has a suppressed M1911A1 pistol stored in his tool box. Judging from the markings and the screws in the slide, this is likely a blank-firing replica.
Various old-fashioned revolvers show up in "The Abominable Bride", a prequel episode to Season 4 taking place in 1895, as the primary firearm carried by both protagonists and antagonists.
Webley Mark IV
During Watson's flashback to his service in the Second Anglo-Afghan War, several British soldiers and officers are seen with Webley Mk IV revolvers.
Colt 1878 Double Action
Emelia Ricoletti, aka "The Abominable Bride" (Natasha O'Keeffe), fires dual long-barreled Colt 1878 Double Action revolvers during a shooting spree over a London street.
Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman) is seen carrying a Webley Bulldog, however he is not seen firing the weapon in the film.
Webley RIC
Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) is seen equipped with a Webley RIC revolver. Like Watson's case, Sherlock is not seen firing the weapon in the film.
Emelia Ricoletti, aka "The Abominable Bride" (Natasha O'Keeffe), shoots her husband Thomas (Gerald Kyd) outside an opium den in Limehouse with both barrels of a double-barreled shotgun in "The Abominable Bride", a prequel episode to Season 4 taking place in 1895.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
Multiple H&K MP5A3 submachine guns, outfitted with Surefire flashlight fore-ends and EoTech sights are seen being used by the CO19 Armed Response Unit throughout the second season finale.
Heckler & Koch MP7A1
Sherringwood guards wield H&K MP7A1 submachine guns with 40-round magazines in Season 4's finale The Final Problem.
Rifles / Carbines
AK Variant
During Dr. Watson's flashback to his tour in Afghanistan, an ANA soldier is seen using a variant of the AK-47.
AK-47
One of the terrorist at the end of S2E1 is armed with an AK-47 rifle. As with the P226, this is likely an airsoft gun.
L85A2
A small number of L85A2 rifles are seen used by British Army soldiers throughout the series.
Heckler & Koch G36C
Some of the soldiers at the Baskerville Research Facility are armed with Heckler & Koch G36C assault rifles. Suppressed G36Cs can also be seen in the hands of A.R.G.A task force.
In the Season 4 prequel "The Abominable Bride", during Watson's flashback to his service in the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-1880), a British soldier next to Watson fires a Martini-Henry rifle (presumably a Mark II version, which was first issued in 1877, just prior to the war's outbreak). An Afghan fighter appears to use a similar rifle to wound Watson (whereas in the original Conan Doyle story, A Study in Scarlet, Watson attributes his wounding to a bullet from a Jezail musket).
Remington Rolling Block
In Season 4's finale The Final Problem, a scoped Remington Rolling Block is the weapon used in a murder, which must be solved as one of Eurus's puzzles. Watson is notably seen describing it as a "buffalo rifle", claiming it dates most likely to the 1940's.
Machine Guns
L7A2
Several British Army Soldiers in Afghanistan are seen with L7A2 machine guns.
L110A1
At least one soldier in Afghanistan is seen armed with an L110A1 (the U.K. designation for the FN Minimi Para).
