The Vichy Sûreté Nationale (Vichy Gestapo) shows up with armed French Navy sailors and question Harry and then confiscates his money. Being put in the middle of the Gestapo's search for the leader of the French resistance Harry decides to help a resistance leader escape with the help of Marie "Slim" Browning played by Lauren Bacall.
