Cold in July is a 2014 crime thriller directed by Jim Mickle and written by Mickle and Nick Damici based on Joe R. Lansdale's novel of the same name. In the film, Richard Dane (Michael C. Hall) kills a burglar in his house, whose father (Sam Shepard) later seeks revenge. Things take a turn for the worse, when the burglar might not have been who the police make him out to be. The film takes place in East Texas in 1989.
The following weapons were used in the film Cold in July:
Error creating thumbnail: File missing WARNING! Major Spoilers!
Colt Official Police
Richard Dane (Michael C. Hall) uses a Colt Official Police to kill a burglar in his house early on in the film. He also uses it during the warehouse shootout. In some scenes the Colt appears to be missing the ejector rod, and is possibly a stunt replica used for non-firing scenes.
Smith & Wesson Model 64
Ben Russell (Sam Shepard) acquires a Smith & Wesson Model 64 revolver from a Mexican criminal halfway through the film, altough the revolver changes into a blank-fire only EKOL Viper revolver several times in the film, as the Model 64 was most probably just used for firing scenes.
EKOL Viper
Ben's Model 64 turns into an EKOL Viper blank-fire only revolver for non-firing scenes in the film, and is portrayed as a real steel weapon in the film.
Colt Python
Jim Bob Luke (Don Johnson) uses a Colt Python revolver as a sidearm during the warehouse shootout.
Colt Government Model
Sheriff Ray Price (Nick Damici) carries a Colt Government Model in a chest holster in the film. Freddy Russell (Wyatt Russell) also uses one during the climax of the film.
IMI Uzi
One of Freddys' accomplices uses an Uzi during the warehouse shootout. The muzzle-flashes are CGI when he fires the weapon.
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
Jim Bob Luke and Ben Russell use 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotguns with exposed hammers during the warehouse shootout.
Short barreled Side by Side Shotgun (Sawed Off)
Richard Dane uses a Sawed Off Shotgun during the warehouse shootout.
