The Getaway is a 2002 action-adventure open world video game developed by Team Soho and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. The Getaway is inspired by British gangland films Get Carter (1971) and Snatch. Initially, the release of the game was to coincide with the launch of the PlayStation 2 in 2000, but was delayed by 27 months due to the difficulty of re-creating large areas of London in high resolution.
The game focuses on two characters each with their own plot threads, Mark Hammond, an ex-bank robber, and Detective Constable Frank Carter, a police officer in service with the Flying Squad, with both plots running parallel and intersecting before concluding in the finale of the game. A sequel entitled The Getaway: Black Monday was released in 2004.
The following weapons appear in the video game The Getaway (VG):
Pistols
Glock 17
The Glock 17 is the most common weapon in the game, used by gangsters and police. Can be dual wielded.
Shotguns
Sawn-Off Side by Side Shotgun
The rarest weapon appearing in-game, a Sawn-Off Side by Side Shotgun is used by Harry.
Benelli M3
The Benelli M3 appears frequently in game, used by gangsters. Sparky uses one during a cutscene in 'Cat In The Bag'.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
The Central Operations Specialist Firearms Command (SO19) use Heckler & Koch MP5A3 submachine guns with the Navy trigger group in line with equipment issued in reality at the time. They are rarely encountered in game and as such, the MP5A3 is a rare weapon. Can be dual wielded.
Assault Rifles
AKS-47
The AKS-47 is used by all gangster factions. Jake Jolson and Eyebrows use one with the stock folded to attack the officers on the prisoner transport.
Launchers
M79 Grenade Launcher
The M79 Grenade Launcher appears exclusively in a cutscene during 'Aiding and Abetting', where it is used by Jake Jolson to blow up a prisoner transport van. Eyebrows references that he got it from a Russian, and that the 'pineapples' are hard to come by. It is not available for use ingame.
