The Werndl Rifle is a series of Austro-Hungarian single shot, breech loading battle rifles, designed by Josef Werndl. The first model M1867 (also known as Werndl–Holub) replaced the outdated infantry Lorenz M1854 rifle. It was followed by improved M1873 which in turn was modified in M1873/77, using a more powerful cartridge. Most models were manufactured in several versions, includng infantry rifle, short rifle and carbine.
