The QW-2 Vanguard 2 is a Chinese MANPADS, an improved version of the QW-1 Vanguard which was a Chinese derivative of the Russian SA-16 "Gimlet." It was first displayed at the Farnborough Airshow in England in 1998, and is believed to have been adopted by the People's Liberation Army some time between that date and 2002.
Strictly speaking the weapon's actual name is either Qian Wei 2 (前卫 or traditional 前衛, lit. "advance guard") or Vanguard 2, since one is the domestic name and the other the export name.
