Genre:
Action-adventure
The Saboteur is a 2009 action-adventure developed by the now closed Pandemic Studios, published by Electronic Arts, about an Irish race driver turned saboteur (loosely based on the real life race car driver turned SOE agent William Grover-Williams) who tries to avenge the death of his best friend in Nazi-occupied France by killing the man responsible, demolishing as much of the Third Reich's hardware as possible in the process.
The following weapons appear in the video game The Saboteur:
The Luger P08 appears as the "Kruger pistol". Due to the length of the barrel, it's more like a Marine version of the pistol with a 150 mm barrel (shorter than Artillery model with a 200 mm barrel). Uses pistol ammo.
Luger P08 Custom
Dierker, the main villain, uses a modified version of Luger P08, called the "Executioner pistol". It has a brass-knuckles-like finger guard, a knife attached to the base plate of the magazine and fires fully automatic; it's Dierker's weapon of choice and can be obtained by killing him, or be bought from any Weapons Dealer after the game is finished. It, too, uses pistol ammo and is able to take out pretty much any human enemy in one shot.
Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer
The Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer appears as the "Raum pistol". Uses pistol ammo. Usually appears with 20-round magazine, but in some missions available rare version with 10-round magazine.
Mle 1892 Revolver
The Mle 1892 Revolver appears in the game as ".44 Pistol". It has an long target barrel. Strangely it uses the same ammo as both the Kruger and the Raum pistols. It is a one-shot kill weapon, although Mle 1892 was never issued in .44 caliber, and his 8x27mm ammo on the contrary were considered not powerful enough. Sean calls it a "Yankee Hand Cannon" (that somehow contradicts its origin) and states that "One shot will turn the Krauts insides into Shepherd's pie. But watch out. She's a bitch to reload."
Walther PPK
The Walther PPK appears as the "Silenced pistol". The suppressor and the weapon description stating that this weapon was popular among British spies is obviously a reference to James Bond. Uses silenced pistol ammo. The resistance leader Margot Bonnaire also wields a PPK without a suppressor at the ambushed meeting of Maquis faction chiefs.
Submachine Guns
MP40
Appears as the MP40. Both the Resistance and the German military uses it. Sean says it "is as common as hookers in Paris, and seen about as much action", which is somewhat inaccurate in real life.
Sten Mk IIS
The suppressed Sten Mk IIS appears as the "Viper SMG". Uses silenced machine gun ammo.
Thompson M1A1
The Thompson M1A1 appears as the "Tommy-MG". Mostly found in supply crates and used by high level Résistance members. Fitted with a 50-round drum which the M1A1 was not designed to accept.
Rifles
"Hunting rifle"
The small-caliber bolt-action rifle with tube magazine appears as the "Hunting rifle". Uses rifle ammo.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
The Mauser Gewehr 1898 appears as the "Steiner Rifle" (a possibly nod to Cross of Iron, as the protagonist was named Steiner). It uses rifle ammo. A scoped version also appears, which uses sniper ammo. Both versions incorrectly are semi-auto in-game
Mauser Karabiner 98K
The Karabiner 98K appears as the "Carbine" (which is inaccurate since it's rifle). A scoped version is available. The normal (unscoped) version uses rifle ammo, the scoped version uses sniper rifle ammo. The "Carbine" also seems to have the magazine of a Lee-Enfield which is detached and replaced when reloading.
Sturmgewehr 44
The Sturmgewehr 44 appears as the "MP44 MG". Shares the ammo with the MP40 and the Tommy gun, which is definitely unrealistic. The first appearance in the game took place during the Battle of France in 1940, a full 2 years before appeared first Haenel MKb 42(H) "machine carbine" prototype.
"Terror MP60"
The "Terror MP60" is a fictional automatic weapon, resembling a bulkier Sturmgewehr 44, enlarged to proportions of USAS-12 and using some elements of its design. This weapon used by the "Terror troops", German elite soldiers. Despite being labelled as an "MP" (Maschinenpistole/Submachine gun), it rather resembles a light machine gun. It has a 150-round drum magazine and uses Terror MG ammo.
Shotguns
Double Barreled Shotgun
Appears as the "Double barreled shotgun". Uses shotgun ammo. This is supposedly chambered for 10 gauge, judjing by barrels and shells size.
"Terror Shotgun"
The "Terror Shotgun" is appears to be a heavily modified futuristic Browning Auto-5, feeds from AA-12-esque drum magazines. Design of its forend seems to imply that this can work in both pump and semi-auto actions (like the SPAS-12), although only the second are expected to be available in the game. Other features include the non-functional Surefire weaponlight (in real life appeared only in 1985) and heat shield. This is the one of the fictional weapons used by the "Terror troops", and uses own "Terror shotgun" ammo. Again this is unrealistic for the German military at the time because they and most of the other European powers don't use shotguns in their military.
Winchester Model 1912
The Winchester Model 1912 appears as the "Trench gun", although the M1912 in game is an ordinary field shotgun, and, moreover, is based on an anachronistic post-war model. It is also unusually carried by some German soldiers, what is unrealistic because the German military officially had always detested the use of shotguns in warfare.
Sniper Rifles
Mauser Gewehr 1898 Sniper
The Mauser Gewehr 1898 Sniper appears as the "Scoped Steiner Rifle". It uses sniper ammo. Rifle incorrectly are semi-auto in-game.
Mauser Karabiner 98K Sniper
The Mauser Karabiner 98K Sniper appears as the "Scoped Carbine". It uses the sniper rifle ammo. The "Carbine" also seems to have the magazine of a Lee-Enfield which is detached and replaced when reloading.
"Terror Sniper Rifle"
The "Terror Sniper Rifle" is a very powerful semi-automatic custom-built sniper rifle. It's also is one of the most powerful weapons in the game. It has the same Browning-pattern receiver as the "Terror Shotgun", which gives it a vague superficial resemblance to Browning BAR Safari.
Machine guns
MG42
The Maschinengewehr Model 42 is seen mounted on Kübelwagen and in fortified positions. The front end looks like the MG42, but the back end looks like the Browning M2 machine gun.
Launchers
Panzerfaust
Appears as the "Siegfaust II". Uses Siegfaust ammo. Unlike the real Panzerfaust, this one in the game had a pistol grip that looks like it was taken from an RPG and it was fired off the shoulder.
Panzerschreck
Appears as the "Panzerschreck". Uses Panzerschreck ammo. It also has a trigger group in M9 Bazooka-style, and about 3/4 from the actual Panzerschrek's length to justify its ability to quick reload.
The "Terror Flammenwerfer" is a fictional flamethrower (as in many other games, freely inspired by the M240's design), used by some Terror soldiers, and also the only flamethrower in the game available to the player.
Cut Weapons
The certain weapons were removed before the game's final release for unknown reasons. This weapons has been kept fairly secret because of this and could only be found by modifying the game. Based on The Saboteur Wiki's information.
Sawn-off Double Barrel Shotgun
The Sawn-off Double Barrel Shotgun was to appear in the game, but then for some reason, it has been removed. Compared with conventional Double Barrel Shotgun, it uses a scatter shot firing system with a vastly shorter range but increased damage at short range.
Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I Sniper Variant
The scoped Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I rifle is an interesting weapon in the game. While it can't be accessed in ordinary game, it can be found behind the counter at the entrance of the Belle.
In gameplay, while an interesting addition to the arsenal, is fairly underwhelming in it's damage. This leads one to believe that it may have been intended for early game use as it often takes multiple shots to kill and on stronger enemies a shot to the head might not be enough. The Lee Enfield's accuracy is also fairly low, making the issue with damage worse.
Thompson M1A1
The M1A1 Thompson with normal 30-round box magazine also had to appears in the game, but then for some reason, it has been removed. All appearances, it was initially planned that the M1A1 with a 50-round drum would appear at a late stage of the game, as "update" for ordinary M1A1 Thompson; but this did not happen, and in the release version of the game Thompson with a drum magazine is available from the beginning, as a base version.
Sten Mk II
The unsuppressed variant of the Sten Mk II submachine gun was also removed. It is would be effective only at an early game's stage, due to small damage.
