Horizon (original title Gorizont which is both the word and the name of main character) is a Soviet 1932 B&W drama directed by Lev Kuleshov. Jewish lad Lev Gorizont emigrates from Russian Empire to United States in search of better life. But in America he also faces unemployment, poverty and injustice. Gorizont is involved in class struggle but when most of his comrades are arrested by police, he has the only chance to escape: to become a soldier of US Army. After some time in the trenches on the Western Front in 1918, his unit is sent to Russia as a part of North Russia Expeditionary Force. Here Lev Gorizont, watching the atrocities of Whites troops and of the worst part of American soldiers, leads a rebellion. With a group of like-minded soldiers, Gorizont joins Reds. After the Russian Civil war is over, he finds "the promised land" in Soviet Russia.
The following weapons were used in the film Horizon (Gorizont):
During the rebellion of American soldiers in North Russia, an officer (Andrey Fayt) draws a Colt M1911 but is disarmed. Lev Gorizont (Nikolay Batalov) takes his pistol.
When Lev Gorizont (Nikolay Batalov) serves in Russian Army, he and other soldiers carry Mosin Nagant M1891 rifles. The rifles appear to be Dragoon model which is incorrect as the soldiers are in infantry uniform. M91 rifles are also seen in the scene in the camp of Red partisans during the events of Russian Civil war.
In the scenes on the Western Front in 1918 and in North Russia in 1919, American soldiers are armed with Winchester Model 1895 rifles. In reality these rifles weren't issused to US Army but they were used in the movie due to distinctive "foreign" appearance.
