Xenonauts (2014)

Xenonauts is a 2014 turn-based strategy game developed by Goldhawk Interactive for PC, Mac and Linux platforms. In inspired by 1994's UFO: Enemy Unknown, the player commands a clandestine organization known as the Xenonauts, attempting to defeat an alien invasion of Earth in the alternate history year 1979. The siquel was released in 2019.

The following weapons appear in the video game Xenonauts:


Handguns

Beretta 92F

A Beretta 92 variant, presumably the 92F, appears as "Ballistic Pistol", and can be equipped by soldiers in between missions. The weapon is also seen in the hands of Police Officers and Local Forces during missions. The weapon has polymer grips and originally had an inaccurate 12 round magazine, but this has since been changed to the correct 15 round capacity.

Colt M1991A1

The Colt M1991A1 appears in game files as an unimplemented weapon in the "Alternate" weapon set. It does not appear anywhere else in game.

Makarov PM

The Makarov PM appears in game in the hands of Police and Local Forces during missions. It cannot be equipped by the soldiers in between missions and picking one up during battle transforms it into a Beretta 92. Shotguns

Mossberg 500

What appears to be a Mossberg 500 appears in game as the "Ballistic Shotgun". It can be equipped by Xenonaut Soldiers in between missions, and is also used by Local Forces such as Police and Arctic Researchers, and can be picked up from dead or incapacitated NPCs. The weapon holds 8 rounds and has a short range. A soldier using the weapon can be seen using the pump-action after shooting, but the fact that the weapon has a tube magazine is not represented in game; the shotgun shell inventory item works basically as a detachable magazine (Replenishing the ammunition capacity of the weapon to full in a single action).

MTs 21-12

The Farmer's Shotgun appears in the game in the hands of Local Forces such as Farmers during missions, and cannot be equipped by Xenonaut Soldiers; it appears to be a MTs 21-12 with an unribbed barrel and a trigger guard from a Baikal MP-153. It is not available for equipment in between missions, and during missions picking one up will transform it into a Ballistic Shotgun. It also appears in game files as an unimplemented weapon, known as the "Soviet shotgun", and is part of the "Soviet" weapon set. The most notable difference in appearance is the wooden furniture of the Farmer's shotgun as opposed to the black furniture of the Ballistic shotgun.

Assault Rifles

AK-47

The AK-47 appears in game in the hands of NPC Soldiers and Local Forces during missions in the Soviet Union and Middle East. It cannot be equipped by Xenonaut troops in between missions. In earlier builds, picking one up during a mission transformed the gun into an M16; however, an update gave it its own GUI image, albeit without any statistical difference from the M16 other than magazine capacity. Although it is not available for equipment pre-mission, if a Xenonaut soldier picks one up while on mission, it is saved as part of their loadout when they return to base. The appearance of this weapon in the hands of Soviet troops is somewhat anachronistic, as by 1979 it would have been somewhat replaced by either the AKM or AK-74. The weapon also appears in game files in the "Soviet" weapon set, and is seen in two versions; one with wooden furniture and one with black, presumably polymer, furniture.

M16

The Colt M16 appears in game as "Assault Rifle", and can be equipped by soldiers in between missions. It can also be seen in the hands of NPC Soldiers and Local Forces during missions. Unlike the real weapon, the Assault Rifle is only capable of semi-automatic or 3-round burst fire. It loads from a 20 round magazine.

Colt Model 723

A Colt Model 723 appears in game files under the name "M16 short" as an unimplemented weapon in the "Alternative" weapon set.

Sniper Rifles

Heckler & Koch G3SG/1

A Heckler & Koch G3SG/1 with no bipod and an MSG90-style stock appears in game as the "Precision Rifle", and can be equipped by Soldiers in between missions. The weapon loads from a 20 round magazine which inaccurately has a 10 round capacity in game. It is only capable of semi-automatic fire.

SVD-M Dragunov

The SVD-M appears in game files as an unimplemented weapon in the "Soviet" weapon set, and does not appear normally in game. The weapon has black polymer furniture and, unlike other Soviet weapons in the game, does not feature a version with wooden furniture.

Heckler & Koch HK91

What appears to be a Heckler & Koch HK91 converted to resemble an SR9 (T) appears in game files as an unimplemented weapon in the "Alternative" weapon set. It does not appear anywhere else in game.

Heckler & Koch SR9

A regular SR9 also appears in game files, referenced only as the "HKPG2", as an unimplemented weapon in the "Alternative" weapon set. It does not appear anywhere else in game. It has a shorter magazine than all other G3 derivatives that appear, possibly reflecting the actual in-game 10 round magazine capacity of the Sniper Rifle.

Machine Guns

FN MAG

The FN MAG appears in game as the "Machine Gun", and can be equipped by Soldiers in between missions. The weapon feeds from 50 round belts. The weight of the weapon is reflected in game, as a soldier carrying it who is not strong enough will suffer a reduction in movement. The weapon fires in 5 round bursts, has black furniture and an unusable bipod.

MG3

A weapon referred to as the "MG42", which appears to actually be an MG3, appears in game files as an unimplemented weapon in the "Alternative" weapon set. It does not appear anywhere else it game. The weapon has a black, presumably polymer, grip and stock.

Heckler & Koch HK21E

The Heckler & Koch HK21E appears in game files under the name "MG53" as an unimplemented weapon in the "Alternative" weapon set. It does not appear normally in game. The weapon, like other firearms in the Machine Gun category in game, appears to feed from belts rather than magazines. Unlike other weapons in it's class, it is fitted with a scope.

PKM Machine Gun

The PKM appears in game files under the name "PK" as an unimplemented weapon in the "Soviet" weapon set, and does not appear normally in game. As with most Soviet weapons, two variants of it exist: one with wooden furniture, and one with black polymer furniture.

Browning M1919

Dual Browning M1919 Machine Guns appear in the game as the ".30 Cal", and is the default weapon for the Ferret Armoured Car. It currently holds a maximum of 100 Rounds and cannot be reloaded.

Browning M2

The Browning M2 appears in game as the GUI image for the M1919 Machine Guns on the Ferret Armoured Car.

M61 Vulcan

The M61 Vulcan appears as the default weapon for light interceptors, such as the F-17 Condor (fictional variant of the F-16 Falcon), and is referred to as the "20mm Autocannon". It's portrayal in game is somewhat inaccurate, as aircraft can only carry 50 rounds, and it's rate of fire is significantly slower.

Rocket Launchers

Mk153 Mod 0 SMAW

The SMAW appears in game as the "Rocket Launcher", and can be equipped by Xenonaut Soldiers in between missions. It can be carried, operated and reloaded by a single soldier in game, but both the launcher and ammunition are heavy, and firing or reloading requires a lot of time units. Unlike most conventional firearms in game, which may get replaced by Laser, Plasma or Railgun weapons as the technology becomes available, the Rocket Launcher is persistent throughout, but the warheads on the rockets get upgraded. As a result, the weapon is capable of launching High Explosive, Stun, Alenium, Plasma, Incendiary or Fusion Rounds. The weapon seen in game is technically anachronistic as the Rocket Launcher is available from the start in 1979, but it can be explained away as an early prototype based on the B-300.

RPG-7

The RPG-7 appears in game files known as the "RPG7" in the "Soviet" weapon set, and does not appear normally in game. The weapon comes in two versions; one with wooden furniture and one with black furniture.

Hand Grenades

Mk 2 Hand Grenade

Xenonaut Soldiers can be equipped with Mk 2 hand grenades from the beginning of the game.

GUI Image of the "Frag Grenade". Unlike other grenades, Frags do not explode immediately; they instead detonate at the end of the player's turn. Killing aliens with explosives usually destroys their equipment, making their use quite economically risky.

M83 Smoke Grenade

Xenonaut Soldiers can be equipped with M83 smoke grenades from the beginning of the game. A variant of these grenades can be developed that emit sleep gas; useful for capturing aliens alive.

M84 Stun Grenade
