Beretta M9

Snake begins the game with a modified Beretta M9, the military version of the 92FS, fitted with a suppressor and loaded with tranquilizer rounds that will knock out enemies. The gun is also fitted with a laser-sight. To keep noise down from cycling a new round, the slide is locked closed and snake must cock the gun manually after every shot. Raiden also begins his story using the same type of tranquilizer pistol.

Makarov PM

Olga Gurlukovich is seen with this gun when the player first meets her. She tosses the gun overboard shortly afterwards, after Snake orders her to do so. Raiden also observes the other soldiers carrying Makarovs later in the game, but only use them when they run out of ammunition for their primary weapon, or sometimes when you injure their right arm. This weapon will not be obtained by the player.

Heckler & Koch USP

Olga Gurlukovich uses this gun when dueling with the player. After defeating her, the player is able to take the gun and use it themselves. It can be fitted with a suppressor (Enhanced version only), and also comes with a tactical flashlight that turns on automatically when the weapon is raised in a dark area. In the Shell chapters, Raiden can use the Mk. 23, with a silencer. The USP is derived from the Mk. 23. Unfortunately this becomes a hinderance when trying to keep a low profile and it doesn't blind the enemy while using thermal goggles (in a real-life situation it would probably serve to disorient them a bit).

AKS-74U

This assault rifle is used by most of the Gurlukovich soldiers throughout the game. It can eventually be obtained by the player, and can also be fitted with a suppressor.

Heckler & Koch Mk. 23 SOCOM

Raiden is given this pistol early in the Plant chapter of the game. Like the M9, this gun is fitted with a laser sight, though it is not used to aim in first-person mode (instead, the player aims using the iron sights). Can also be fitted with a suppressor.

AN-94

This assault rifle is used by the Gurlukovich soldiers on Big Shell. It cannot be obtained by the player.

Colt M4A1

The M4A1 is carried by Navy SEAL Team 10, and can later be acquired by the player, with a laser sight and fully automatic fire capability. It is also used by the clearing teams in the Big Shell. The M4A1 that the clearing teams use has a M203 grenade launcher attached. The Marines in the Tanker also use the M4A1/M203 combo to fight back against Metal Gear RAY. Snake also carries an M4A1, later attaching an M203 for use against Solidus. The game lists it as an M4 rifle, but its fully automatic fire makes it an M4A1, not an M4, which is a burst rifle.

FIM-92A Stinger

A surface-to-air missile that the player can use to shoot down aerial targets. The launcher is capable of locking on to targets. File:Snakes screen008.jpg

Colt Single-Action Army

Revolver Ocelot's weapon of choice.

FN P90

The Tengus in Arsenal Gear are seen carrying these weapons. Solidus is also seen with it.

Franchi SPAS-12

The SPAS-12 is carried by the clearing teams in the Big Shell.

H&K PSG-1

Sniper rifle used by Raiden and Pliskin. A tranquilizer variant is available as the PSG-1T

Glock 18

Fatman's weapon of choice. He uses this in his battle with Raiden.

RH-Alan RGB6
