The Molot Bekas ("bekas" means Jack snipe, a type of bird) is a Russian pump-action shotgun based on the KS-23 for the civilian market. The first prototype was developed by TsNIITochMash and represented KS-23 chambered in 16/35 gauge; Molot's designers have improved this design, and produced the first version in limited edition in early 90s. Subsequently, by 1995 the shotgun was converted to a more powerful 16/70 cartridge, and put into mass production in 1997.
A version in 12/70 gauge was introduced in 1999, called the Molot Bekas-M. Semi-auto variants of Bekas-M are also produced; they are designated Bekas-M-Auto.
Molot Bekas can be configured with a variety of barrels and stocks, although magazine capacity is not adjustable.
