The Wave (German: Die Welle) is a 2008 German drama movie directed by Dennis Gansel (Before the Fall). Rainer Wenger is a high school teacher and is supposed to explain to his students in a project week about "autocracy". It turns out that the students are of the unanimous opinion that something like National Socialism cannot be repeated today. Wenger dares an experiment: He appoints himself to be a leading figure and sets new rules and guidelines with slogans such as "Power through Discipline". The attempt starts harmless, the newly founded movement, called "The Wave", arrives. However, dissenters are quickly excluded, and first acts of violence also take place away from the school grounds.
