The No.1 Mk.I Cup Discharger is a rifle grenade launcher designed for use on the Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III*, developed during WWI. The grenade launcher fired the No. 36 Mills Bomb with a special gascheck disk base attached (though it can also fire other grenades). Because of the heavy recoil of launching a rifle grenade, some rifles were specifically modified with wire wrappings (which reinforces the weapon and prevents the stock and forearm from splitting under recoil) and used only in the grenade launcher role. These were called EY rifles, which stood for "EmergencY use" (other sources instead say that EY stood for Edward Yule, the designer of the weapon).
