Dean Smith as Kid Duffy in Big Jake.

Now retired, Dean Smith was a professional Hollywood stuntman for decades. He was also an outstanding athlete, winning a gold medal at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland in the 4x100 meter relay. He played professional football for the L.A. Rams and was a top level professional rodeo cowboy. He also was a friend of John Wayne and worked as a stunt performer in many westerns with him over the years.

In 2006 he was inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Dean Smith is a member of the Stuntman's Hall of Fame. In 1997 he was named "All American Cowboy" and in 1998 he received a Golden Boot Award. In 2007 he received the Silver Spur award for his contribution as a stuntman in the film business.
