The No. 2 Hand Grenade "Hale" was used by the British Forces in WW1. The grenade used an impact fuze meaning that as soon as the grenade hit the ground, the fuze would detonate. The body of the grenade is made of a brass tube, it had a cast fragmentation ring. Cloth tails were fixed on the stick to stabilize the flight. There were two variants of this grenade, the No. 2 MK. 1 and the No. 2 MK. 2. Difference between the two models was the handle and the cloth tails. The MK. 1 used a 16-inch handle and one cloth streamer, the MK. 2 variant used a 7-inch long handle and multiple cloth streamers. The design was not very successful because it required a special fuze which was not compatible with the other grenades in used at that time. There was also a rifle grenade variant which were also used very shortly by the British Forces.
