The story is set in Autumn 1941 - Spring 1942 in the besieged city of Leningrad and depicts two Red Army soldiers - Arkady Dzjubin (Mark Bernes) and Sasha Svintsov (Boris Andreyev) who are close friends, then they are in quarrel, and then they become friends again under fire.
