Ribeyrolles 1918 Automatic Carbine - 8x35mm Ribeyrolles

The Ribeyrolles 1918 Automatic Carbine is an Automatic Carbine/Light Machine Gun produced in France in 1916. The design looks similar to an SMG, but at the time was used as a LMG and Automatic Rifle. The weapon was produced from 1918 to 1920. It utilized a 25 round magazine and fired between 550 and 600 rounds per minute. The weapon was capable of equipping a bi-pod and a bayonet but never saw any service in the war due to it's heavy design, and paired with its weak round made it unsuitable for combat.

Special mention needs to be made for its ammunition, the 8x35mm Ribeyrolles. The 8x35mm Ribeyrolles was obtained by necking down the .351 Winchester Self-Loading round, and was argued by some to be the first purpose-built intermediate cartridge, making the carbine one of the first assault rifles by some definitions.
