Starsky and Hutch was a television action series that ran on ABC from 1975-1979 and starred David Soul as Det. Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson and Paul Michael Glaser as Det. Dave Starsky. The name of the show during its initial run was Starsky AND Hutch, however, later DVD and VHS releases re-titled the series Starsky & Hutch (replacing "and" with "&"), which is the name used for the major motion picture remake Starsky & Hutch in 2004. The series was a rough & tumble buddy cop show that pushed the envelope of 1970s standards regarding TV violence during prime time scheduling.
The following weapons are used in the television series Starsky & Hutch:
Handguns
Colt M1911A1
Det. Dave Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) carries a Colt M1911A1 as his main sidearm during the pilot episode. In the pilot Starsky refers to his sidearm as a "Beretta" while he and Hutch are reviewing their equipment in Hutch's LTD before beginning their shift.
Smith & Wesson 59
Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) also carries a Smith & Wesson Model 59 as evidenced by the flat backstrap, high capacity magazine and black plastic grips. At that time, the Model 59 was highly sought after. It was the highest capacity double action 9mm pistol then in production, holding 14 rounds in the magazine (that's one more than the Browning Hi-Power).
Colt Python
Detective Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson (David Soul) also carries a Colt Python .357 magnum in both a six inch and four inch model. Soul had previously played a character who used a Colt Python in the Dirty Harry film Magnum Force (the film that was responsible for landing Soul the role of Hutch in the TV series). The Python has since been associated closely with the series.
Smith & Wesson Model 10
In the pilot episode, Hutch is armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 10 snub nose.
Smith & Wesson Model 29
In the pilot episode one of the hitmen, Cannell (Michael Conrad), is armed with a Smith & Wesson Model 29 with 8 3/8" Barrel.
Smith & Wesson Model 40
In the episode "Deckwatch", Hutch (David Soul) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 40.
Colt Detective Special
Luger P08
Colt Diamondback
Rifles
Armalite AR-18
In the 1st season episode "Jo-Jo", Nick Dombarris (Robert Riesel) is armed with a Armalite AR-18 fitted with a scope.
Submachine Guns
Smith & Wesson Model 76
In the episode "The Set-Up: Part 2" Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Hutch (David Soul) are armed with Smith & Wesson Model 76 submachine guns.
Shotguns
Remington 870
