Details regarding the FAMAS model used in the FÉLIN is rather messy. The current model of FAMAS most commonly described as FAMAS FÉLIN features the flat-top receiver and the front grip with remote controls (bottom image to the right). This model is also referred as "FAMAS Surbaissé" ("Lowered") on IMFDB, which, while identified as an actual version of the FAMAS by some sources, no evidence supports that this name applies to this specific model. Some models are seen being used in limited numbers by members of the French military outside of the FÉLIN system, suggesting that it is an actually produced model instead of a mock-up.

A different model with differently designed flat-top receiver exists (middle image to the right). It is called "FAMAS Valorisé" ("Enhanced") on IMFDB, which again, was supported by sources to be an actual FAMAS variant but no evidence supports that it applies to this model. This model is observed to be used in the FÉLIN system in some sources, and some images exist depicting it with a front grip similar to the "FAMAS Surbaissé". This model is very rarely seen and almost never seen in action, suggesting that it may be an early prototype or mock-up.

The G1 (which never saw widespread production) can be distinguished by its enlarged trigger-guard, an improved foregrip, and straight 25 round magazine, while the G2 utilizes the G1's trigger guard and foregrip, It has a redesigned magazine well for the use of STANAG magazines.

Configuration most commonly described as "FAMAS FÉLIN", also known on IMFDB as "FAMAS Surbaissé", with infrared scope and camera. Note the controls on the front grip. - 5.56x45mm

A FAMAS outfitted to be used in conjunction with the FÉLIN combat system. The most notable difference is the replacement of the integral carry handle with a flat-top receiver with a Picatinny rail for mounting optics, which would mount a large video sight that transmits the feed to the soldier's helmet mounted eyepiece. Also commonly seen is a front grip with remote controls for the weapon's sights and communication controls. The bipod is also lengthened and "bent" so it won't block the ejection port.
