The Manchurian Candidate is the 2004 remake of John Frankenheimer's classic political thriller of the same name. As in the original, the plot centers around a decorated Army soldier who is part of a powerful political family and the possibility that he may have been brainwashed after being captured during a battle (the setting is now updated to the 1991 Gulf War instead of the Korean War). The film was directed by Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs) and stars Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, and Liev Schreiber.
