I don't think the M14 was the E2. Isn't the E2 the failed Squad Automatic Weapon version? The M14 sniper rifle is the M21.

I do not believe that was the MG-42 in the movie. Instead I think it was the CEMTE Ameli SAW which, though externally similar to the MG-42, instead is not as long and fires the 5.56 round.

It was more likely a Rheinmetall MG3, which is a similar weapon except in .308 NATO; the Ameli has a carry handle on top and the one in the movie didn't, so it's probably an MG3.
