The first percussion pistol for the cavalry of the imperial-royal army was introduced in 1844. In the imperial-royal army the earlier flintlocks were modernized on the basis of Vincenz Augustine's plans, at pistols in the beginning only the lock was changed for a new one. So the Kavalleriepistole M. 1851 is the old Model 1798 cavalry pistol, who receives the percussion lock by Augustin system. Some surplus of this Austrian arms were delivered to US forces in the early days of the Civil War.
