CHiPs was a television police series that followed two motorcycle officers (portrayed by Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox) of the California Highway Patrol who encountered all sorts of cases while patrolling the freeways of Southern California. Despite being in law enforcement, all of the officers were rarely seen drawing their sidearms. The series was broadcast on NBC for 6 seasons from 1977 to 1982. In 2017, the series was adapted as a feature film comedy starring Dax Shepard and Michael Pena.
The following weapons were used in the television series CHiPs:
Colt Python 380
The standard handgun used by the California Highway Patrol officers in the series is the Colt Python. The officers who carry the revolver include Officer John Baker (Larry Wilcox) and Officer Frank "Ponch" Poncharello (Erik Estrada). Throughout the series, these officers were never seen actually pulling their revolvers. Only one officer was actually seen pulling his Colt was Officer Barry Baricza (Brodie Greer), who was seen pulling on a charging martial artist as well as when a couple of men were seen shooting up his patrol car with Thompsons.
M1928 Thompson
In Season 2's "Peaks and Valleys", a M1928 Thompson is seen used by one of the men who shoot up Officer Baricza's patrol car.
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
The other man who shoots up the patrol car uses a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.
Ithaca 37
An Ithaca 37 is seen in Baricza's patrol car.
