About
Springfield Armory located in Springfield, Massachusetts, was the primary center for the manufacture of U.S. military weapons from 1777 until its closing in 1968. It produced a variety of firearms, artillery, ammunition, swords, bayonets, and many well known and iconic rifles like the Springfield Model 1861, Springfield Model 1873 "Trapdoor", Springfield Model 1892 "Krag-Jørgensen", Springfield Model 1903, M1 Garand, and M14 were designed and manufactured there. In 1974, the name was licensed to Robert Reese to form Springfield Armory, Inc. Today the historic armory is part of the National Park Service and is preserved as Springfield Armory National Historic Site.
