Gotham is a superhero crime series that is set in the Batman universe. Set in the time before Bruce Wayne became the Dark Knight, the series follows a young Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), a detective with the Gotham City Police Department, who must confront the criminals who threaten to take over the city. Many of the criminals seen in this series are earlier versions of the well known villains that Batman would confront in his later adventures. The series premiered in the US on FOX in the fall of 2014.
