The funny thing is that while the SMLE Mk III, of which over 3 million were made and used across the entirety of the British "empire" during BOTH world wars, is known as "Utterly reliable and with the smoothest bolt action ever made..." (Hogg, Ian. ''Jane's Guns Recognition Guide''. HarperCollinsPublishers, Glasgow, UK, 2002.), an India soldier is shown jamming one. Perhaps it was a Lee Enfiled Rifle No. 4, or mahaps it was an honest SMLE Mk 3, only the film-makers may ever know. | The funny thing is that while the SMLE Mk III, of which over 3 million were made and used across the entirety of the British "empire" during BOTH world wars, is known as "Utterly reliable and with the smoothest bolt action ever made..." Colt Official Police
Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) loses his Colt Official Police at the beginning of the film when Willie drops it out of the getaway car after they exit club Obi Wan. Indy's had a 4" barrel and was .38 special. It had been thought that the Temple of Doom gun was the Colt New Service M1917 or possibly one of the cut down Smiths from Raiders of the Lost Ark, but new evidence and first hand information has led to the discovery that it was a 4 inch Colt Official Police .38.
Short Magazine Lee Enfield
The Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) was used by the Indian Army against the Temple of Doom guards at the Bridge scene.
