World in Conflict is a real-time tactics (RTT) video game released on September 18, 2007 in North-America, later on September 20 in Australia and on September 21 in Europe. Developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft (formally by Sierra Entertainment) for the PC, World in Conflict won many Best Strategy Game awards for 2007. On March 2009, an expansion pack called World in Conflict: Soviet Assault was released and introducing six new single-player missions, which tells the storyline of the Soviet Union side, also including new characters.
The following weapons appear in the video game World in Conflict and the expansion World in Conflict: Soviet Assault:
WARNING! Spoilers are included in few pictures and their descriptions.
The Beretta M9 can be seen fired by an American soldier during the final cut-scene of the mission Last Stand. This could also be the holstered sidearms of some characters.
Colt M16A2
The M16A2 is the standard issue weapon of the U.S. soldiers and Norwegian Rangers. In cut-scenes, the M16A2 is seen used by 1LT Parker, CPT Mark Bannon, CPL Anton “Ants” Rodriguez, CPT James Webb (with an M203 grenade launcher), and many other characters. In-gameplay, the M16A2 is only used with M203 grenade launcher.
Colt Model 733
The Colt Model 733 is used only by COL Sawyer in France and Norway, though he never fires it.
FN Minimi/M249-E1 SAW
The FN Minimi is used only by CPL Thompson. In the 1980's the U.S. military used the FN Minimi as their squad automatic rifle, alongside the M249. CPL Thompson is the only one to be seen using an FN Minimi, though in-gameplay the U.S. Infantry squads are incorrectly using the Mk 46 Mod 0 instead.
Mk. 46 Mod 0
The Mk 46 mod 0 is used by one soldier in each Infantry squad. It would be more appropriate to see an FN Minimi or an M249 SAW, as the Mk 46 Mod 0 is more a special operations weapon, which also was not issued by the American military during '89. A note of interest is that the front sights are awkwardly modelled and don't look like an FN Minimi-based weapon.
M60
The M60 can only be seen used by U.S. soldiers in both the intro and New York cinematic videos.
Browning M2HB
The Browning M2HB is mounted on M1025 HMMWVs, AAVP-7A1s, and M1A1 Abrams tanks.
M85 Heavy Machine Gun
The M85 heavy machine gun appears in the game as the secondary armament of M60A3 Patton tanks.
GE M134 Minigun
The GE M134 Minigun can only be seen in the New York cinematic video, mounted on the tail of a (incorrect) USMC MH-53 Pave Low helicopter. The Minigun is in the original crew served mount and is fitted with a GAU-17/A type slotted flash suppressor.
A stock-less Franchi SPAS-12 can be seen in the intro and in one of the CGI trailers, though not used in-game. It can also be very briefly seen (though poorly modelled and far too small) during an in-engine cutscene.
FIM-92A Stinger
The FIM-92A Stinger is used by only one soldier in each Infantry squad, and is able to attack helicopter units.
In the Soviet Assault launch trailer, some American soldiers can be seen firing an M136 AT4, also seen on the back of a soldier in one of the U.S. campaign's cut-scenes, though is never seen used in-game.
The M61 Vulcan is the Anti-Air weapons used in the American and NATO fortifications (the M167 VADS) and the M163 VADS, as well as USAF's F-15s and F-16s.
Light artillery APC units are using M252 mortars as their main weapon.
M15 anti-tank mine
A number of M15 anti-tank mines can be seen in a seized US arms cache during a cutscene.
NATO Weapons
FAMAS F1
In cut-scenes, Commandant Jean-Baptiste Sabatier is the only NATO character to be seen carrying a FAMAS F1.
FAMAS G1
The FAMAS G1 is the standard issue weapon of the NATO soldiers. Like the M16A2 and the AK-47, the FAMAS G1 in always seen with a grenade launcher in-gameplay.
M240B machine gun
The M240B, distinguished by the rail on top, but missing its heat-shield, is mounted on Land Rovers and also used by one soldier in each Infantry squad. It is odd to see the M240B in use by NATO forces, as an FN MAG would be more appropriate.
MG3A1
Crudely rendered MG3A1s can be seen mounted on the commanders hatch of Leopard II tanks.
FR F2
The FR F2 is seen in the hands of French NATO snipers.
FIM-92A Stinger
Same as the U.S. Infantry, NATO forces also use the FIM-92A Stinger against air units.
L21A1 RARDEN
The primary weapon of FV510 Warrior IFVs is the 30mm L21A1 RARDEN.
Rheinmetall MK 20 Rh 202
The primary weapon of the Spähpanzer Luchs is the Rheinmetall MK 20 Rh 202. This vehicle is depicted in-game as an amphibious IFV, whereas it is in fact a reconnaissance vehicle.
Oerlikon KDA 35mm
A pair of Oerlikon KDA 35mm autocannons are the primary armament of the Flakpanzer Gepard.
Alenia Difensa TM-197B
The gun carried by the Agusta A129 Mangusta is the Alenia Difensa TM-197B, an Italian licence built version of the General Dynamics M197 Vulcan.
GIAT M621
The gun carried by the Aérospatiale Gazelle SA 341F is a GIAT M621 20mm cannon.
Soviet Army Weapons
Makarov PM/Baikal IJ-70
A Makarov PM is used by Capt. Malashenko in a couple of cutscenes. It may perhaps be modelled on the commercial version, as it appears to have an adjustable rear sight.
AK-47
The AK-47 is standard issue weapon of the Soviets soldiers. It is inaccurate to see the AK-47 used by Soviet soldiers in 1989, an AK-74 would be more appropriate. Same as the other assault rifles, the AK-47 is always seen with an attached grenade launcher; a GP-25 in this case.
AK-74
The more period appropriate AK-74 is seen in the hands of Soviet soldiers during Soviet Assault cutscenes.
AS Val
AS Vals are seen in the hands of Spetznaz during the first Soviet Assault mission.
The 12.7 mm Yakushev-Borzov Yak-B four-barrel Gatling gun is seen mounted on Mil Mi-24V Hind-E gunships.
RPG-7
RPG-7 is the standard soviet AT weapon in-game. Its back part is really awkwardly modelled, its just too long.
SA-7 Grail
The standard Soviet AA weapon seems to be the SA-7 Grail
GP-25
The GP-25 grenade launcher is used by Soviet soldiers and is attached to all AK-47´s in game.
ZU-23
The ZU-23 is the anti-aircraft armament of Soviet fortifications. The weapon is also seen quad-mounted on ZSU-23-4 Shilka anti-aircraft vehicles.
Shipunov 2A42 autocannon
A 30mm Shipunov 2A42 autocannon is mounted on the Soviet BMP-2 (together with a 9M113 Konkurs ATGM), and Mil Mi-28 Havoc gunships (which were not produced until 1998, 9 years after the game is set, or fly for another 5).
Other Weapons
Unknown Revolver
An unknown revolver is used by Seattle police officers in the beginning of the game.
