Several gangsters use M1911s. One can be seen on a table when Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) is loading a Thompson and others can be seen in his personal armory in his bedroom.

Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 10 to shoot his friend Guino (George Raft).
