The U.S Marine platoon providing security for USS Tigerfish during the mission are armed with M16 rifles. 1st Lieutenant Russell Walker (Tony Bill) and Captain Leslie Anders (Jim Brown) are both prominently shown handling the M16 at various points in the film, and some Navy sailors also hold M16s when they are engaged in a standoff with Soviet troops.
