Argo is a 2012 thriller directed by and starring Ben Affleck as CIA exfiltration specialist Tony Mendez, who in 1979 helped to devise a daring plan for extricating six American diplomats from Iran during the Iranian Hostage Crisis by posing as a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a fictional sci-fi epic. The film's cast includes John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, and Alan Arkin. Argo would go on to receive three Academy Awards, including the 2012 award for Best Picture.
