F/X (1986)

F/X is a 1986 action thriller starring Bryan Brown as Roland "Rollie" Tyler, a movie special effects artist who is hired by the CIA to stage a phony hit. When the assassination appears to actually take place, Rollie finds himself using his expertise to evade the police and to prove his innocence. A sequel was released in 1991.

The following weapons were used in the film F/X:

Smith & Wesson Automatic (nickel)

McCarthy (Brian Dennehy) also is seen with what appears to be a nickel Smith & Wesson automatic. Though hard to tell, the weapon appears to have a large grip as well as the frame bulge, indicating a high-capacity S&W auto. The gun was previously listed as a Smith & Wesson 5904, which is not possible since the movie was released in 1986, while the 5904 and most other '3rd Generation' S&W autos were made in 1989 and later.
