Russian Army adopted a chemical hand grenade in 1917. It was designed by Vladimir Rdultovsky who also designed RG-14 hand grenade. M1917 grenades were filled mostly with Chloropicrin. They were used in WW1 and in the Russian Civil war. This grenade was still in service in 1927; there is no data when it was withdrawn from service.
