The Day of the Triffids (1962) is the first of three filmed versions of John Wyndham’s classic science fiction novel (The Day of the Triffids (1981) and The Day of the Triffids (2009)) and the least faithful adaptation of the original story. While this version lack’s Wyndham’s philosophical musings, it is nonetheless an underrated monster thriller. The film was directed by Steve Sekely and starred Howard Keel, Nicole Maurey, Janette Scott, Kieron Moore, Mervyn Johns, Ewan Roberts, and Alison Leggatt. A meteor storm blinds humanity, which falls prey to carnivorous, walking plants.
The following firearms were used in the film The Day of the Triffids (1962):
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
Ben Masen (Howard Keel) wields a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.
MP40
Escaped convicts menace the blind in the retreat of Christine Durrant (Nicole Maurey) with the MP40, equipped with a wood stock.
Sten Submachine Gun
Various characters wield the Mk II Sten submachine gun.
Improvised Flamethrower
Bill Masen toasts the Triffids with an improvised flamethrower using a gasoline tanker truck.
