Cast a Giant Shadow is a 1966 war movie about the struggle for Israeli independence. It is based on the true story of David "Mickey" Marcus (Kirk Douglas), a Colonel in the United States Army and World War Two veteran, who agrees to act as an advisor for the Haganah during the 1948 War of Independence. Marcus, initially reluctant, becomes devoted to the cause as he confronts his attraction to a beautiful Jewish activist, Magda (Senta Berger).
The following weapons appear in the film Cast a Giant Shadow:
Sidearms
Colt M1911A1
"Mickey" Marcus (Kirk Douglas) and General Randolph (John Wayne) carry the Colt M1911A1 during their service in World War Two. Marcus draws his briefly in one scene, but it is never seen in enough detail to screencap.
Enfield No.2
Major Safir (James Donald) carries an Enfield No.2. Although it is never used, the model can be confirmed by the shape of the holster. "Mickey" Marcus (Kirk Douglas) carries one during a raid on a Syrian depot.
Submachine Guns
M1928A1 Thompson
"Mickey" Marcus (Kirk Douglas) and other paratroopers carry the M1928A1 Thompson during the D-Day jump. When going shopping on Christmas eve, Marcus admires a fake Thompson (looking very much like the real one, except for size).
Sten Mk II
Haganah and Palmach fighters, including Magda (Senta Berger), Asher (Yul Brynner) and Ram Oren (Stathis Giallelis), use the Sten Mk II. Vince (Frank Sinatra) fires a Sten from his airplane, until it jams and he throws it out of frustration.
Rifles
Karabiner 98k
A German sniper can be seen using a Karabiner 98k in World War Two. Haganah and Palmach fighters use the 98k during the War of Independence.
Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III*
The main weapon of the Arab armies and militia is the Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III*.
Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I
Syrian and Arab Legion soldiers Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I.
M1 Garand
American soldiers fighting in World War Two carry the M1 Garand.
VZ-24 Czech Mauser
Haganah troops are armed with the VZ-24 Mauser.
VZ-33 Czech Mauser
In one scene, a weapons cache delivered to the Haganah contains the VZ-33 Mauser.
Machine Guns
Bren Mk1
Haganah fighters, including Ram Oren (Stathis Giallelis), use the Bren Mk1, often mounted on jeeps. British soldiers use them, as do the Arab Legion infantry defending Latrun.
