After the Eckert brothers and their friends escape the North Korean invasion to their father's cabin, Pete (Steve Lenz) finds a Browning Hi-Power from the old RV. He eagerly uses it, nearly blowing Jed Eckert's (Chris Hemsworth) head off, casuing Jed to seize the Browning from him. Jed then uses the Browning during the training montage. Julie Goodyear (Alyssa Diaz) also briefly uses the Browning during a sabotage attack. Jed's borther Matt (Josh Peck) later takes the Browning Hi-Power during the escape from the high-rise building near the end of the film.

The Wolverine's acquire several Intratec TEC-9 pistols from the towns people during the training montage. The TEC-9s have been converted fully automatic. Jed Eckert (Chris Hemsworth) test fires one of the TEC-9s, after Robert Kitner (Josh Hutcherson) admires them, simultaneously showing how poor the accuracy is. Jed, and Robert use the TEC-9s during an ambush against North Korean troops to acquire better weaponry. Daryl Jenkins (Connor Cruise) uses one of these guns after the forementioned ambush, before the Wolverines retreat to their hideout.

Most North Korean soldiers carry AKM rifles, visually modified with the addition of plastic furniture and AK-74-style muzzle brakes to resemble the AK-103s, as their primary firearms in the film. Russian soldiers are also equipped with similar AKMs, but with additional full-length railed handguards. Toni Walsh (Adrianne Palicki) uses a modified AKM as her primary, after previously using the AKMSU as her sidearm after the first ambush on the North Korean soldiers. Daryl Jenkins (Connor Cruise) uses a scoped AKM during the attempted assassination on Capt. Cho during the North Korean ceremony. Daryl is also seen armed with a plain AKM mock-up for the remainder of the film. Robert Kitner (Josh Hutcherson) also uses one of the AKMs during the assault on the KPA base inside the Spokane Police headquarters. Matt Eckert (Josh Peck) also uses the AKM as his primary firearm, after giving up the AKMS he previously used to avoid capture after the assassination attempt. Danny Jackson (Edwin Hodge) also uses a modified AKM, after he dumps his AKMS to avoid capture after the assassination attempt during the ceremony. Corporal Smith (Kenneth Choi) also briefly fires a modified AKM, to distract some of the North Korean soldeirs during the attack on the KPA base. Captain Choi (Will Yun Lee) also takes and uses an AKM, during the assault on the KPA base.

Red Dawn is the 2012 remake of the 1984 Charlie Sheen/Patrick Swayze film of the same name. The remake involves an invasion of the continental United States by North-Korea. The film was filmed in late 2009, and was slated to hit theaters in November 2010, but due to financial troubles by MGM, the film was shelved. Originally, the invaders were depicted as originating from China, but has since been changed to North Korea; this is mainly due to concern that a negative depiction of the PLA may result in the Chinese government banning any future MGM films, such as the then-upcoming Skyfall. The film was eventually released in November of 2012. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
The following weapons can be seen in the film Red Dawn:
Handguns
Browning Hi-Power
Makarov PM
All of the North Korean officers carry Makarov PM pistols as their sidearms throughout the film, most notably Captain Cho (Will Yun Lee). Russian soldiers also carry Makarovs in leg holsters. Danny Jackson (Edwin Hodge) throws one away after the assassination attempt on Captain Cho (Will Yun Lee), to avoid capture. Jackson most likely seized the Makarov from a fallen Noth Korean soldier.
Smith & Wesson 59
Toni Walsh (Adrianne Palicki) uses a Smith & Wesson 59 during a couple of surprise attacks on the North Korean forces.
Intratec TEC-9
Glock 17
Tom Eckert (Brett Cullen), a Sergeant in the Spokane police force carries a Glock 17 as his sidearm. Tom's Glock visible when he leaves the house to patrol on "böackout duty". Jed Eckert (Chris Hemsworth) takes and uses his father's Glock 17 pistol from a safebox, during the Wolverines' attack on the KPA's base inside the Spokane Police headquarters.
Kimber Custom TLE II
Sergeant Hodges (Matt Gerald) of the USMC, carries a customized M1911A1 in a thigh holster. He uses the pistol during the Wolverines' attack on the KPA at the Spokane Police headquarters. The pistol features custom sand-grips, and Novak sights. The weapon is most likely a lightly customized Kimber Custom TLE II. Sergeant Major Andrew Tanner (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) also carries one in a thigh holster.
Submachine Guns
Cobray M11/9
Along with several TEC-9s, the Wolverines' acquire a Cobray M11/9 submachine gun from the towns people during the training montage. Matt Eckert (Josh Peck) uses the Cobray M11/9 during an ambush on North Korean soldiers.
Rifles
Remington 700
Matt Eckert (Josh Peck) finds a Remington 700 bolt-action rifle at their father's cabin. He gives it to his brother Jed Eckert (Chris Hemsworth), who uses it as his primary firearm, before acquiring better weaponry. Toni Walsh (Adrianne Palicki) and Daryl Jenkins (Connor Cruise) also use the rifle during the training montage. Robert Kitner (Josh Hutcherson) later uses the rifle during a hunting trip with Jed and Matt.
Winchester Model 1894
Matt Eckert (Josh Peck) finds a Winchester Model 1894 rifle at their father's cabin, and uses the rifle as his primary firearm, until the Wolverines acquire better weaponry. Jed Eckert (Chris Hemsworth) also briefly handles this rifle, when waking up his brother at their father's cabin. Daryl Jenkins (Connor Cruise) briefly uses this weapon during the training montage.
AKM (Modified to resemble AK-103)
AKMS
After the Wolverines' ambush on North Korean soldiers to secure better weaponry, Matt Eckert (Josh Peck) and Daryl Jenkins (Connor Cruise), and Danny Jackson (Edwin Hodge) all use AKMS rifles with black plastic furniture and no stock as their primaries for the first half of the film. Matt gives up his AKMS to a civilian after he rescues her girlfriend Erica (Isabel Lucas) to avoid capture. Danny throws his AKMS away after the assassination attempt during the North Korean ceremony to avoid capture. Daryl switches to a scoped AKM before the assassination attempt during the North Korean ceremony, and doesn't use the AKMS again. Matt and Danny are also seen with modified AKM rifles after dumping their AKMS rifles.
AKMSU
Some of the North Korean soldiers use AKMSU carbines modified with KCI quad rail systems as their primary firearms. After ambushing some North Korean soldiers for better weaponry, Jed Eckert (Chris Hemsworth) uses an AKMSU carbine as his primary firearm throughout the film. Toni Walsh (Adrianne Palicki) also uses an AKMSU as her primary after the first ambush, but is later seen with one of the AKM/AK-103 mock-ups. Greg (Julian Alcaraz) and Julie Goodyear (Alyssa Diaz) use AKMSU carbines as their primarys in the film.
Norinco Type 56
Some North Korean soldiers carry Norinco Type 56 assault rifles with black plastic furniture as their primary firearms, besides the AKM, also used to imitate the AK-103. The Norinco Type 56 rifles are distinguishable by their hooded sights. Robert Kitner (Josh Hutcherson) uses a Norinco Type 56-1 as his primary firearm for the first half of the film, before being replaced by the M249 SAW machine gun.
Colt M4A1 carbine
USMC Sergeant Major Andrew Tanner (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his subordinates Sergeant Hodges (Matt Gerald) and Corporal Smith (Kenneth Choi) all carry M4A1 carbines as their primary firearms. SgtMaj. Tanner and Cpl. Smith have ACOG scopes with attached Docter red dot sights, tactical flashlights, and foregrips on their M4A1 carbines. Sgt. Hodges has an EOTech sight, and a SureFire M900 weaponlight/foregrip combo on his carbine. Tanner, Hodges, and Smith use suppressors on the M4A1s during the attack on the KPA base inside the Spokane Police headquarters.
Machine Guns
M249 SAW
Robert Kitner (Josh Hutcherson) uses an M249 SAW, after presumably acquiring it from dead North Korean soldiers, with a 100-round cloth magazine as his primary firearm fro most of the film. Matt (Josh Peck) gives the M249 to Toni (Adrianne Palicki), before the attack on the KPA base. Robert uses the SAW again, during the surprise attack on the Wolverine's hideout. Near the end of the film, Robert gives the M249 to Daryl Jenkins (Connor Cruise), who asks if he could "borrow his SAW".
