Argo is a 2012 thriller directed by and starring Ben Affleck. The film is based on the recently declassified story of CIA exfiltration specialist Tony Mendez (portrayed by Affleck in the film), who in 1979 devised a daring plan for six American diplomats to escape Iran during the Iranian Hostage Crisis by posing as a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a fictional sci-fi epic. The film's cast includes John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, and Alan Arkin. Argo would go on to win the 2012 Academy Award for Best Picture.
