Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was a 1979 seven-part drama spy miniseries originally produced for the BBC. Directed by John Irvin and produced by Jonathan Powell, the television miniseries was an adaptation of the 1974 novel by the same name by John le Carré. The cast included Alec Guinness, Michael Jayston, Anthony Bate and George Sewell. The miniseries was originally broadcast in the United Kingdom on September 10, 1979 and in the United States over a year later on September 29, 1980. A feature film adaptation starring Gary Oldman was released in 2011.
