Not to be confused with John Huston's famous 1941 movie, this adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's novel was made ten years before that. This movie stars Ricardo Cortez as Sam Spade, private detective, who's partner, Miles Archer (Walter Long), was killed while on an assignment. Spade takes over the case, where everyone is after the Maltese Falcon, an invaluable treasure.
- Actors: Bebe Daniels, Ricardo Cortez, Dudley Digges, Una Merkel, Robert Elliott, Thelma Todd, Otto Matieson, Walter Long, Dwight Frye, J. Farrell MacDonald,
- Directors: Roy Del Ruth
The following guns were used in the movie The Maltese Falcon:
Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless
Unlike in the 1941 version (and the original novel) Archer is not killed with a Webley-Fosbery revolver, but rather with a Colt Model 1903 Hammerless. Detective Polhouse (J. Farrell MacDonald) shows the pistol to Spade at the crime scene. Wilmer Cook (Dwight Frye) also has one such gun, but Spade takes it away from him, when he tries to kill Spade. Later Spade hands over to Colts to Detective Polhouse: one is Cook's, the other is apparently Joel Cairo's (Otto Matieson) gun, which is a continuity mistake, as Cairo earlier had an FN M1900 pistol.
Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket
Ruth Wonderly (Bebe Daniels)carries a Colt M1908 Vest Pocket. Later Casper Gutman (Dudley Digges) takes it away from her, and uses it to get his money back from Spade.
FN Model 1900
Dr. Joel Cairo (Otto Matieson) has an FN M1900 pistol. He uses it when he intends to search Spade's office, but Spade takes it away from him. He then gaves it back to Cairo, who promptly threathens Spade with it again. Cairo has it again later, when he, Gutman and Wilmer ambush Spade and Ruth.
