He also periodically encounters ghosts of people he's known who have since died, including his cousin and best friend, a fellow firefighter who was killed at the World Trade Center. In Season 2's "Justice", Teddy Gavin pulls what appears to be a Glock 19 when confronting the drunk driver who killed Tommy's son.

In the Season 5 finale "Drink", Teddy Gavin holds a Smith & Wesson Model 36 on Tommy when he forces him to drink.
