Gods and Generals is the 2003 American Civil War film that depicts the Battles of Bull Run, Fredricksburg, and Chancellorville. The film was an adaptation of a Jeff Shaara novel about the Civil War (its prequel, 1993's Gettysburg was based on 'The Killer Angels', written by Shaara's father, Michael). Several cast members from the 1993 film returned for the 2003 prequel including Jeff Daniels, C. Thomas Howell, and Stephen Lang (who stars as a different character in this film). Robert Duvall co-stars as General Robert E. Lee (Duvall is a actual relative of the Confederate general).

The following guns were used in the film Gods and Generals:

Springfield Model 1861

Union and Confederate troops carry Springfield 1861 muskets. There are several epic battle scenes showing men reloading and firing their Springfields at one another. A Springfield is used to fatally wound Stonewall Jackson (Stephen Lang) by friendly fire.

Some of the soldiers in this shot are using P1853 Enfields, which is accurate, as they are the troops of the Irish Brigade of the Army of the Potomac, the regiments of which were armed with Enfields and M1842 Springfield .69 caliber smoothbores.

Colt 1860 Army

Joshua Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels) carries a Colt 1860, which he wields and fires most notably in the Battle of Fredricksburg. Several officers carry Colt 1860s in their holsters.
