Super 8 is a 2011 science fiction film written and directed by J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible III) and produced by Steven Spielberg that focuses on a group of kids who inadvertently film a massive train crash and discover that the contents on the train may not be from this world. The movie is also a period piece. It is set in 1979.
The following weapons were used in the film Super 8:
M16A1 Rifle
The M16A1 rifle is seen in the hands of the US Air Force personnel that enter the town after the train crash. Jackson Lamb (Kyle Chandler) takes one and uses it while escaping from the custody of the MPs.
Browning M2HB Heavy Machine Gun
A Browning M2HB heavy machine gun is seen mounted on an M113 APC entering the town. Several others are seen on tanks and APCs in the town during the film's climax.
M2A1-7 Flamethrower
An M2A1-7 Flamethrower is used by a USAF airman to initiate "Operation Walking Distance".
Smith & Wesson Model 10
The Smith & Wesson Model 10 is held by Doctor Woodward (Glynn Turman) after the train crash. It also appears to be the standard sidearm of the city's police department, as several officers have them holstered. Sherrif Pruitt carries one, and it is found on the ground at the site of his disappearance.
M1911A1
Though he never draws it and it is seen only briefly, Deputy Sheriff Jackson Lamb seems to have a M1911A1 or similar single-stack automatic pistol holstered on his belt.
Bolt-Action Rifle
A bolt-action rifle, described as a "Sako .30-06, bolt-action" by one of the kids, is used by USAF personnel to try and tag the creature with fictional "tracker rounds". It appears to have a black synthetic stock, stainless barrel and a modified scope. If the scripted dialog is correct, it may very likely be a medium-action Sako 75 Hunter.
