Revision as of 20:10, 1 July 2011
The following weapons were used in the first season of the television series Miami Vice:
Handguns
SIG-Sauer P220
Det. Sgt. James "Sonny" Crockett (Don Johnson) uses a SIG-Sauer P220 in the pilot episode of the show. Considering that the pilot episode was filmed in the spring of 1984 the model used would most likely have been the European model with the heel-clip magazine release.
Detonics Pocket 9
Used as a back up pistol to Sonny Crockett's SIG-Sauer P220 in the pilot, in which Crockett carries the Detonics Pocket 9 in his rear waistband near the small of his back.
Dornaus & Dixon Bren Ten
Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) uses a Bren Ten in the first season of the show. It was essentially a beefed-up CZ 75 chambered for the original 10mm Norma Auto cartridge which differs slightly in case length from later 10mm rounds. This round was HOT, and consequently damaged the guns. In the '80s this was a new cartridge, but is rarely used in modern day. The company of Dornaus& Dixon was an ill-fated one, and since the producers of the Miami Vice-series would not use discontinued guns, it was replaced with the S&W 645 auto pistol
"The two guns were ordered specifically for the show by Michael Mann's production company. They did not come off the assembly line, but were built by Tom Dornaus personally. Tom did the initial blank conversion, if you want to call it that, but actually these two guns were built from the ground up specifically for firing blanks. He used major components which were not deemed suitable for production guns, but were perfectly adequate for a blank gun. The two guns were Standard Models with the old style rear sight assembly and no trigger stop screw. All external markings were standard Bren Ten. The only difference being that the guns had recoil springs and barrels designed to fire .45 ACP blanks. The barrel does not carry any caliber designation roll mark however. Because the ejection port on a Bren Ten is so large I don't believe that it had to be enlarged to accommodate the elongated .45 ACP blank cases. (Remember that the blank cases are in the shape of a loaded round WITH bullet seated.) Michael Mann requested specifically that the slides be a light color (hard chrome) for enhanced visibility. The hard chrome work was done by a small firm in the Huntington Beach area at that time. Both guns carry a special serial number. One of the guns is in the possession of a major collector in Pennsylvania and the other is owned by one of the show's producers, I believe. They weren't Marksmans or Standard Models with conversion kits. They were two specially built guns". from http://www.bren-ten.com/website/id5.html
Detonics Combatmaster
Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) carries a Detonics Combatmaster as a backup gun, in an ankle holster. In reality the Detonics would have been a substantial handgun to carry in an ankle holster. One of the court officer's uses a Combatmaster during Leon's arrainment in the pilot episode. A drug dealer in "Milk Run" also uses a Combatmaster.
Smith & Wesson Model 38 "Bodyguard"
A J-frame Smith & Wesson Model 38 "Bodyguard" revolver, fitted with Pachmayr grips, is carried by Det. Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) throughout the season.
Smith & Wesson Model 36 "Chief's Special"
A J-frame Smith & Wesson Model 36 "Chief's Special is seen on the bed in Tubbs' hotel room in the pilot episode. Det. Gina Calabrese (Saundra Santiago) also uses this as her sidearm throughout the season, as well as Det. Trudy Joplin (Olivia Brown). An S&W 36 is also used by David Traynor (John Turturro) during the climax of "Rites of Passage".
Browning Hi-Power
Det. Stan Switek (Michael Talbott) carries a nickel Browning Hi-Power with target sights as his sidearm throughout the season.
Smith & Wesson 659
Det. Larry Zito (John Diehl) carries a Smith & Wesson 659 as his sidearm.
Colt Callenger
Trini DeSoto (Martin Ferraro) uses a Colt Callenger with a suppressor to kill Leon (Mykelti Williamson) in the pilot episode. Thanks to Veritas for identifying this one.
Dan Wesson Model 15-VH
Trini DeSoto (Martin Ferraro), disguised in drag, uses a stainless Dan Wesson Model 15-VH to attempt to kill Tubbs in the pilot episode, which he subsequently uses to fire at Crockett and other police officers. Martin Ferraro plays a recurring character Izzy Moreno throughout the rest of the series.
Dan Wesson Model 15
A police officer is seen with his Dan Wesson Model 15 drawn when checking to see if DeSoto is dead, after being shot by Tubbs. The officer's gun has a ribbed barrel.
Smith & Wesson Model 29
During Leon's arrainment in the pilot episode, one court officer points a blued Smith & Wesson Model 29 at Leon, in the mock scenario to excercise their "right to bear arms". Jerry Carrow (Jimmie Ray Weeks) uses an S&W 29 to kill Vincent DeMarco in "One Eyed Jack".
Another court officer in the pilot episode points a nickel S&W 29 at Leon. In "Calderone's Demise", when they are getting ready to face Calderone, Tubbs asks Crockett for a nickel S&W 29, to which Crockett responds "We're not going after an elephant Tubbs" before handing it to him. Lt. Castillo (Edward James Olmos) carries a nickel S&W 29 during the opening scene in "No Exit". Billie Joe Higgins (Jay Patterson) holds a nickel S&W 29 on Crockett and Tubbs in "Glades".
Smith & Wesson Model 19
Jerry (David Patrick Kelly), one of the home invaders, uses a Smith & Wesson Model 19 with a bo-mar rib in "The Home Invaders".
Detective Tim Duryea (Jay O. Sanders) uses a nickel Smith & Wesson Model 19 Snub nose in "The Maze".
Colt Python
In "The Maze", Lt. Jack Davis (Joe Morton) is seen carrying a Colt Python in his holster, as noted by it's Colt grips. Most of the SRT members in "The Maze" carry either Colt Pythons or Colt Commanders.
Beretta Cheetah
FBI Agent Artie Rollins (Ed O'Neill) uses Beretta Cheetah during the climax of "Heart of Darkness". Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) uses a Beretta Cheetah with wood grips in "Calderone's Demise" and "Smuggler's Blues". A Beretta Cheetah is also used by Lile (David Thornton) during the climax of "Rites of Passage". Vanessa uses one to kill Dale Gifford in "The Great McCarthy".
Cinco (Tony Plana) uses a nickel Beretta Cheetah when he tries to kill Gina in "Give a Little, Take a Little".
1911A1
A 1911A1 is famously used by Ludovici Armstrong (Jim Zubiena) to kill a bodyguard in "The Hit List". Joey Bramlette and one of his men use them as their sidearms in "Glades". Jimmy's mechanic Wavey Davey uses one when he and his friend attempt to rip off Crockett and Tubbs for the cocaine in "Smuggler's Blues". One of Calderone's henchmen uses one during the car chase with Crockett and Tubbs during "Calderone's Demise". Costellada's thugs use them in "Made For Each Other".
Ludovici Armstrong (Jim Zubiena) also carries a nickel plated 1911 with pearl grips in "The Hit List". Another nickel 1911 with pearl grips is used by Vincent DeMarco (Joe Dallesandro) in "One Eyed Jack". It is likely that the same gun was used in both episodes. Lt. Jones (Ron Vawter) uses one during the climax of "Smuggler's Blues". Raoul Escobar also has one in "The Maze", seen when he threatens Tubbs with it and when he takes Georges' sister hostage. One of the home invaders is seen threatening Mrs Taylor with one during the opening scene of "The Home Invaders". One of the thugs in "Nobody Lives Forever" guns down the bookie with one at the beginning. One of the men who attempts to buy the MAC 10s off of Guzman during the opening of "Evan" fires one at Switek and Zito. Charlie Fusco (John Santucci) attempts to kill Al Lombard with one in "Lombard" before being shot by Crockett.
Smith & Wesson Model 10 HB
A police officer uses a heavy barreled Smith & Wesson Model 10 in "The Hit List". This indicates that it is most likely the standard issue sidearm for the Metro-Dade Police Department.
Colt Commander
Tubbs uses a satin nickel Colt Commander during the climax of the episode "One Eyed Jack". A thug in "The Golden Triange" also uses a satin nickel Commander when the police stop the drug deal. Several SRT members in "The Maze" also use satin nickel Colt Commanders with wood Series 70 grips.
Smith & Wesson Model 15
One of Joey Bramlette's men is seen with a Smith & Wesson Model 15 tucked in his waistband in "Glades". It is identified as a Model 15 by the S&W medallion on the grips and its adjustable rear sights.
Remington 1866 Derringer
Tubbs, undercover as a Jamaican arms dealer, carries a nickel Remington 1866 Derringer, which he holds on Tony Amato (Bruce Willis) at the end of "No Exit".
Tubbs is also seen using a blued Remington 1866 Derringer in "Smuggler's Blues".
Walther PPK/S
A henchman in "Calderone's Demise" holds a Walther PPK/S with white grips on Tubbs. Rita Amato (Katherine Borowitz) also uses a PPK/S to kill her husband (Bruce Willis) at the end of "No Exit". Valerie Gordon (Pam Grier) uses a PPK/S during the climax of "Rites of Passage". John Costellada pulls one during the climax of "Made For Each Other" but is disarmed of it by Noogie. It is likely that the same gun is used in all episodes.
Heckler & Koch P9S
Gentle (Al Garrison) uses a Heckler & Koch P9S at the end of "No Exit", which is later taken by Tubbs. Floyd Higgins (John Pankow) uses a P9S at the end of "Glades". A P9S is also used by a thug in "Smuggler's Blues", which he holds on Crockett as he and his partner rip them off. Tubbs takes a P9S from a gang member during the climax of "The Maze", which was used earlier by Elio to shoot Georges.
Smith & Wesson Model 686
Lt. Castillo uses a 3" Smith & Wesson Model 686 in "Golden Triangle".
Star PD
A Star PD is seen in on the table in "The Home Invaders", along with several other weapons. Guzman (Al Israel) also uses a Star PD in "Evan".
High Standard HDM
A High Standard HDM is seen in "The Home Invaders".
Gun Case
Various unknown pistols are seen in the arms dealer's depot in "Evan".
Smith & Wesson Model 40
Evan (William Russ) holds a nickel Smith & Wesson Model 40 on Crockett in "Evan".
Smith & Wesson Model 586
Lt. Castillo (Edward James Olmos) uses a Smith & Wesson Model 586 in "Lombard".
Shotguns
Sawn off double barreled shotgun
Carried by Tubbs in the first season. In the pilot, it is seen fitted with a full stock which is removed in later episodes. It is also used by one of the thugs in "Glades".
Franchi SPAS-12
Two of Calderone's henchmen are seen holding Franchi SPAS-12s during the climax of the pilot episode before they are held at gunpoint by Crockett and Tubbs. A nickel plated SPAS-12 is used by a hired killer Ludovici Armstrong (Jim Zubiena) in the episode "The Hit List". Jaime Escobar also uses a nickel plated SPAS-12 in "The Maze". It is likely that the same nickel plated shotgun is used in both episodes.
Mossberg 500
Many Metro-Dade police officers, Vice detectives, and SRT members use Mossberg 500s in "Cool Runnin", "The Hit List", "The Maze" and "Evan", always with wooden furniture. Tubbs briefly takes one from an officer when searching of Ludovici Armstrong (Jim Zubiena) in "The Hit List". The judge in the pilot episode uses a Mossberg 500 Mariner during the mock scenario at the courthouse before Leon's arrainment.
Remington 870
Several Metro-Dade police officers, Vice detectives, and SRT members use Remington 870s in "Cool Runnin", "Little Prince", "The Maze", and "Lombard".
A thug uses sawn off Remington 870 in "Milk Run". Raoul Escobar also uses a sawn off 870 in the beginning of "The Maze".
Remington 1100
Tubbs uses a Remington Model 1100 to shoot at a group of Colombians during the climax of "Glades".
Browning Auto-5
Two Browning Auto-5 shotguns are seen in "The Home Invaders".
Blunderbuss Flintlock
Used by Clem (Al Cox) in "Glades", referred to as a "Gator-Getter". After it misfires several times, he finally kills a Colombian who was about to kill Crockett. The muzzle has the conical shape so you could jam rocks, nails, and other junk in the barrel. It was a primitive shotgun. (Thanks to Gunmaster45 for identifying this one)
Double Barreled Shotgun
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotguns are used by several of Bramlette's men in "Glades".
High Standard Model 10
Xavier uses a High Standard Model 10 in "The Maze". This is a Model 10 "B" version, the "A" had a built in flashlight. This model had a removable one. One of the assassins also uses one in "Lombard".
Sub-Machine Guns
Interdynamic KG-99
Two of Calderone's henchmen use Interdynamic KG-99s in the pilot episode. Crockett (Don Johnson) and Jimmy (Glenn Frey) also use a KG-99 in "Smuggler's Blues" at different times in the episode.
MAC-10
Calderone's driver uses a MAC-10 with a muzzle brake in the pilot episode. Ramone (Coati Mundi) also uses a MAC-10 in the beginning of "No Exit". One of Bramlette's men is seen with a MAC-10 in "Glades". Elio Escobar uses a MAC-10 in "The Maze". A MAC-10 is also used by Evan (William Russ) in "Evan", as the episode revolves around the illegal sale of them. Two of Calderone's henchmen use them during the car chase with Crockett and Tubbs in "Calderone's Demise".
Beretta PM12S SMG
The Beretta PM12S submachine gun is featured in the episode "Heart of Darkness" during the climax.
Anyone know what gun Crockett's holding in the third pic? It's not the Bren Ten as Kovics' took it off his henchman and gave it to Artie who then tossed it to Crockett. 88.108.248.146 18:54, 4 April 2011 (CDT)
Star Z70 B submachine gun
Two of the Jamaicans are armed with the Star Z70 in "Cool Runnin". Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) arms himself with one after he tasers one of the Jamaicans while hiding in the trunk. This 9 mm SMG was used in the past by the spanish military and police.
Smith & Wesson M76
A Smith & Wesson M76 is used by one of the Jamaicans in the "Cool Runnin". Several SRT members can be seen using them in "The Maze".
Heckler & Koch HK94 (Mock MP5)
Crockett and Tubbs load up an Heckler & Koch HK94, among other weapons, before going to meet with Calderone in "Calderone's Demise". Later in the episode, Crockett knocks an HK94 out of a henchman's hand and uses it to kill Calderone. Ramone (Coati Mundi) uses an HK94 in the climax of "No Exit". Tubbs uses an HK94 when he, Crockett, and Jimmy encounter drug dealers as they prepare to leave Colombia in "Smuggler's Blues". Raoul Escobar uses an HK94 to fire at police in "The Maze". All the HK94s in the season are chopped and converted to look like MP5A3s.

A Colombian thug uses an IMI Uzi in "Smuggler's Blues".
Rifles
Replica XM177 (CAR-15)
Tubbs uses a MGC CAR-15 Replica rifle during the flashback to his brother's death in the pilot episode. The fake forward assist is indicative of an MGC Replica CAR-15 Rifle.
Colt Model 654
Sonny Crockett (Don Johnson) uses a Colt Model 654 with a 20-round magazine akimbo a SIG-Sauer P220 pistol during the climax of the pilot episode. Several SRT members also use them in "The Maze". It is noted as a Model 654 by its lack of forward assist.
Ruger Mini-14/AC556
A Ruger AC556 with a folding stock is carried by an SRT member in "Cool Runnin".
Ludovici Armstrong (Jim Zubiena) uses a Ruger AC556 with a shortened barrel, folding stock, and two magazines jungle-taped together in the climax of "The Hit List" when he attempts to kill Crockett.
An SRT member carries a Ruger AC556 with a full stock in "The Maze".
M16A1
Joey Bramlette (Keith Szarabajka) and his men use M16A1s in "Glades". The often switch to regular M16s in continuity error. Several SRT members use M16A1s in "The Maze". Trudy (Olivia Brown) is seen holding an M16A1 when escorting Albert Lombard (Dennis Farina) to the courthouse in "Lombard".
M16
Bramlette (Keith Szarabajka) and one of his men use original, bolt assist-less M16s with M16A1 flash Hiders in "Glades". The M16s switch with the M16A1s because of Continuity errors. Several SRT members in "The Maze" also use M16s.
