Revision as of 07:02, 25 April 2011
The following weapons appear in the video game Resident Evil 4:
Hand Guns
Silver Ghost
Leon Kennedy's standard weapon, the Silver Ghost[1] is often mistaken for an Heckler & Koch USP. However, Ryoumura Jyoshin (the weapon designer for the Devil May Cry, Biohazard and Dino Crisis series) claims that he designed the weapon himself with no individual base model.
Anatomically, the Silver Ghost bears a very close resemblance to the Smith & Wesson Sigma, especially in the slide, magazine, and lower frame. In the game the gun has brown checked grips and a stainless steel slide. The weapon however is shown with a hammer as opposed to a striker. It features an extended barrel, threaded for sound suppressor which is not a feature on the S&W Sigma pistols but are featured in the H&K USP. The Silver Ghost is a bit longer than the Sigma and USP.
Albert Wesker uses this weapon in the Mercenaries Mini game, albeit equipped with a detachable suppressor.
Punisher (FN Five-seveN)
Based off of Fabrique Nationale's Five-seveN handgun which normally chambers the 5.7mm cartridge originally intended to pierce low-levels of body armor. The version seen in-game chambers regular 9mm Parabellum. In game, the weapon has the ability to pierce shields and multiple enemies. It has a modified trigger.
This weapon can be purchased from the Merchant or won in a contest after shooting ten of fifteen blue medallions scattered across two areas. If all targets have been shot, the Punisher will have a free upgrade added onto it, making it slightly more powerful than the standard Handgun.
The gun is used by Ada in Assignment Ada, the main game and The Mercenaries.
Red 9 (Mauser C96 Red 9)
A 9mm version of the Mauser C96 handgun, one of the first automatic handguns to enter production in the world. The Red9 version was developed during World War I and chambered 9mm Parabellum to keep ammo supplies standard, but when soldiers began to load the weapon with the wrong type of ammunition, a large Red 9 was placed on the grip to differentiate the model from the standard Mauser.
This weapon can be purchased from the Merchant, along with a stock which improves its accuracy significantly. It is the most powerful 9mm handgun in the game and when coupled with it's stock, it is also the most accurate.
Vagrant Spaniard Luis Sera uses this as his primary weapon in the main game.
Blacktail (Springfield Armory XD)
The Blacktail, based on a Springfield XD in 9x19mm has a better handling than the standard handgun. Purchased from the Merchant. Ada uses this as her handgun in the main game and Seperate ways. Leon uses it in The Mercenaries. Fully upgraded, it is the fastest firing handgun in the game.
Matilda (Heckler & Koch VP70M)
The Matilda, an H&K VP70M is unlocked to be purchased from the Merchant after successfully completing the Normal difficulty of the game. It has a stock, although, unlike other guns in the game the stock cannot be removed. It is the same gun Leon has in Resident Evil 2. Fires three-round bursts. The gun's name is a reference to the movie Leon The Professional, though they have spelled Mathilda's name incorrectly.
Bonus
The ammo box for handgun ammunition.
Magnums
Broken Butterfly (Smith & Wesson Schofield Model 3/Colt Single Action Army Hybrid)
The Broken Butterfly is a double action revolver chambered in .45 Magnum, it has a firepower of 50 when you make the exclusive upgrade. Notice the gun is a top-break revolver, there are few revolvers it could be, but the closest it seems to be is a hybrid of the Smith & Wesson Schofield and Colt Single Action Army. May be found in a section of the castle after freeing Ashley, or may be purchased from the Merchant.
The barrel and hinge resemble the Model 3, while the frame is nearly identical to the Colt S.A.A. It uses the same ammunition as the Killer7 despite the .45 Magnum is not fully interchangeable with some early .45 versions, especially between Revolvers and Semi-Autos.
Killer7 (Colt M1911 with AMT Hardballer-styled laser sight)
The Killer 7 is a magnum version of the Colt M1911 that may be purchased from the Merchant, the only weapon that has no exclusive ability when fully upgraded. The in game version is equipped with a scope-style laser. The name of the weapon is a reference to the game Killer7, in which the character Kaede uses a similarly modified 1911. The design of the gun is a Terminator homage.
Bonus
The .45 Magnum ammo box.
Handcannon (Smith & Wesson Model 500)
The Handcannon, based on a S&W Model 500 is available if you can get a five-star rank with all characters on all stages (Mercenary Mode). When fully upgraded has infinite ammunition and deals the highest damage of any non-explosive weapon in the game. The in-game weapon is equipped with a laser sight. The recoil is noticeably stronger in the game than in real life (despite Leon being a strong, experienced magnum shooter). Upon reloading Leon loads three bullets manually (it's initial capacity) unless the reload is maxed, in which case he uses speedloaders.
Bonus
A box of Handcannon ammo. .5 (.50) caliber, probably supposed to be Action Express. The cartridges looks to have a rim, which means .500 S&W magnum. Not .50AE.
Sub Machine Guns
TMP (Steyr TMP)
The Steyr TMP, simply called the TMP may be purchased from the Merchant. A stock may also be purchased to improve accuracy and reduce recoil. HUNK uses a TMP modified with a fixed stock, fore-grip, sawn-off barrel, and PEW laser sight box in The Mercenaries. Krauser also uses this same modified TMP in his boss battle in the main game. Ada also uses it in Mercenaries and regular game. The bullets it uses are custom 9mm ammunition, different from the 9mm handgun ammo
Brügger & Thomet MP9
In The Mercenaries minigame, HUNK carries a customized TMP based on the Brügger & Thomet MP9 as his weapon. It has several upgrades and looks slightly different from the standard TMP, as well as being already equipped with a folding stock.
Bonus
The box of TMP ammo.
Chicago Typewriter (M1A1 Thompson)
The Thompson submachine gun or Chicago Typewriter as it is called in the game is unlocked by completing the sidestory assignment Ada and may be purchased from the Merchant for 1 million pesetas after that. Comes with unlimited ammo. If used with the Mafia costume (unique to the PS2, PC and Wii versions of the game), it will load from drum magazines, while the handguard is replaced with the foregrip normally found on the 1921 and 1928 Thompson variants.
Shotguns
Shotgun (Remington 870)
May be obtained in one of three ways. On Easy mode the weapon is in your inventory, on Normal modes or higher you may obtain it for free in the upstairs section of a house in the Ganados Village, or you may purchase this weapon from the Merchant.
Riot Shotgun (Custom Benelli M3 Super 90)
A stainless shotgun that bears great resemblance of both Benelli M3 and M4 with the collapsible stock and pump action mechanism. It is identically the same version of Assault Shotgun from Resident Evil Remake (2002). Many fans mistakenly claim this one M4, however the real M4 is semi-auto only while M3 has both action types. The in-game version is actually a modified M3, because many of Benelli M1, M3 and M4 stocks are interchangeable, although no such weapon confirmed nor seen in the real world. Despite the fact that many prefer the tighter spread of the Riot Gun over the Striker's wide-shot, it is rarely used once the Striker becomes available due to its compact design, despite the fact that the Riot Gun has clearly been intentionally modified with the M4 collapsing stock.
The weapon may be purchased from the Merchant from Chapter 3-1. It is also used by Leon in the Mercenaries.

...but with this pump mechanism.
Striker (Armsel Protecta)
The Armsel Protecta may be purchased from the Merchant. Upgraded to maximum it has a 100-round drum, which Leon can reload completely by putting two shells into it. Leon aims and fires the Striker from the hip, like Ada's shotgun, despite a foldout stock being clearly present.
Ada's Shotgun (Mossberg 500)
Ada uses this stubby Mossberg 500 shotgun in Separate Ways. The gun in the game is stainless steel and the action bar is in the pistol grip style.
Bonus
The box of shotgun ammo.
Rifles
Bolt Action Rifle (Springfield M1903A4)
A modified version of the Springfield M1903A4 rifle which fires .223 caliber rounds as opposed to the real steel's .30-06 cartridges. May be purchased from the Merchant. A higher magnification scope can be bought for the rifle, increasing it's accuracy at long range.
Semi-Auto Rifle (Heckler & Koch SL8)
A Semi-Auto H&K SL8 may be purchased by Leon from the Merchant. Like the bolt-action rifle, a custom scope can also be attached. This gun is used by Ada in Seperate Ways, Assignment Ada, and The Mercenaries. It is also used by Wesker in The Mercenaries.
Bonus
The box of rifle ammo.
Arms Dealer Exclusives
The Merchant has a few weapons on display that can not be purchased. These include a Steyr SPP (or a TMP missing its fore-grip), a low-detail H&K SL8, and a few (very, very low-detail) unknown handguns.
Special
Rocket Launcher/Special Rocket Launcher/Infinite Launcher (RPG-7)
The standard Rocket Launcher may be purchased any time from the Merchant, or you will find one in the Castle. The Special Rocket Launcher is a special-event item. The Infinite Rocket Launcher is available for purchase from the Merchant upon completion of the game once.
Not Guns
Bow Gun
May be purchased from Merchant in Separate Ways, and is often seen in the hands of monks and militia. The enemy version is unusable by the player and fires burning bolts (the fire doesn't have any effect) while the usable version shoots exploding bolts.
Minethrower
May be purchased from Merchant. The weapon fires custom darts with explosive tips that embed themselves in an enemy and detonate after a period of time. When fully upgraded its mines will automatically home in on the nearest enemy.
Krauser's Bow
Krauser uses this weapon in Mercenaries minigame. In the main boss battle it fires explosive arrows. Possibly a reference to Rambo.
Plaga Removal Laser(P.R.L.) 412
Available after beating game in Professional mode. The weapon uses a light based laser that will annihilate anyone/thing in Leon's line of sight. 300px
Los Illuminados Gatling Gun
Used by a senior monk of the Los Illuminados cult in the Castle section of the game and by the Militia in the Island section, it has alot of barrels but it has an average suppressive fire machine gun rate of fire, which makes all those barrels redundant, it caliber is probably between 5.56 NATO and 7.62 NATO, maybe even .50 BMG. Cannot be used by the player.
GE M134 Minigun
This gun is used by J.J. (The minigun wielding Gannado) and cannot be used by the player.
Dart Rifle
A Villager uses a dart rifle to render Ada unconscious.
